amazingly enough, the dhl van pulled up this morning (less than 24 hours later!) and delivered a new rtp300. perhaps not so surprisingly, however, is that after i plugged it in and waited for it to come online, the full-ring (and hence "hello" being cut off in most cases) is still going on. so a totally fresh replacement doesn't seem to help at all.

(a completely unrelated yet interesting thing i noticed is that the power adapter sent with the replacement seems to be a fair bit beefier than the one which came with my original rtp300 -- wonder why)

i know there are several Vonage company lurkers in the forum, as well as some people who might have contacts within the company -- are there any folks around who might be able to put some of this info in the hands of people who can do something, or otherwise help to see if this is a fixable issue?

for instance, the fact that i get the full-ring (with the first "hello" being unheard) when calling most (all but one so far) numbers, both cell and landline spread across the country, and yet get the correct behavior of partial ring and immediate pickup when dialing my sprint cellphone (with the same exact phone number which didn't happen on verizon, only after i switched to sprint) *HAS* to be at least a starting point for correctly identifying a problem which by all indications COULD be corrected (if it works in one case, why not others?) and SHOULD be corrected to adequately service Vonage customers. several people are having this issue, and with the answer delay such that people might hang up on you for a 1+ second delay before Vonage correctly completes the call, it's a very real problem which impedes the ability for this to be a proper "replacement" for a normal landline.

It _is_ rather surprising that this thread isn't attracting any comment from the Vonage reps, especially since one or two others have now reported problems similar to yours. As you say, problems like this one, left unresolved, make Voip less attractive as a mainline service than would otherwise be the case.

Does anyone have anything new on this issue? My daughter, who got Vonage on my recommendation, just started reporting this issue. I experienced it from the receiving end.

I have noticed it to certain locales, especially Dallas for some reason. True, it is annoying, but making as many calls as I do in the day I have learned to adapt.

I remember the discussion on the other thread, but it seemed that the problem that involved specific locations was a fairly short pause, cutting off a word or a syllable. The delay when my daughter called was several seconds. I was ready to hang up when she finally responded.

yeah -- now you see the reason i was so frusrated Wink

this issue *still* persists for me, and has continued unchanged through the varous firmware upgrades since last i posted about it. it really does affect how useful the line can be, but Vonage appears to not be very interested in solving it. maybe if more people started complaining Rolling Eyes
