PostPosted: Tue Sep 06, 2005 9:15 am    Post subject: Can not call Vonage number from a Cingular cell phone Reply with quote Back to top

After two weeks of having Vonage service, I am very happy with one major exception: I cannot call home with my Cingular cell service. I get nothing other than a fast busy signal. The cell phone is provided by my company so I cannot just change it.

I called both Vonage and Cingular and both companies have opened tickets. Within 24 hours i got a call back from an abrasive Cingular tech explaining that she couldnt even get through on a land lane so its Vonage's problem. I fought with her for over 20 minutes explaining that I have recieved a multitude of phone calls from both cellular and land line phones right before she called. After going around and around I basically told her to escalate the ticket but I see no sign they will be able to help.

On the Vonage side, I have not heard a word about the progress since both speaking to them and emailing tech support. It would be a shame that I would have to bail on the Vonage service because of buck passing. I see several other threads where people have had this problem quickly rectified but this is not the case. I have kept my land line phone for 30 days to be sure the transition is smooth and time is running out.

I have tried just the number, the area code, the "1" in front. Nothing works.

At home I am using the RTP-300 but I do not thinnk it is my home setup because I have made and recieved tons of calls without a hitch.

Sorry, just venting.

Hmmm...I know we don't have any trouble specifically with Vonage and Cingular at all.

Just tried calling my brother's number in jersey from the same cell phone (he also has Vonage). That call also went though with no problem.

The plot thickens...

I don't have any problems calling my Vonage number from a Cingular phone. I've tried from both a former AT&T Wireless as well as a new Cingular phone.

Did you recently have your number transferred? If so, who was the original provider of that number? It sounds to me that there may be a routing problem somewhere. I've heard of this before. Often times it eventually corrects itself when someone updates a routing table somewhere.

Unfortunately, it is not a number that is being transferred. It is a new number supplied by Vonage. I also would rather not change it again as i have already notified everyone as well as gotten used to what a great number combo i wound up with.

On a side note and this may not be related: if you have call forwarding going to the cell phone you are trying to call your home phone with you can get some pretty wacky results. On my nextel I get a Call cannot be completed message and if i run the same scenario on Cingular I get a busy tone.

On Verizon it goes to my verizon voicemail which is what it should do.

I have had a similar problem calling my Vonage line from my TMobile cell phone, but I get a message saying the subscriber is not in service. But if I hangup and call back (sometimes it takes a few retries) it will work. Both TMobile and Vonage have been of no help.
