My son and new bride are stationed in UK, Is Vonage available in this area near Cambridge?

What does he need to have? I believe that he has a high speed connection, and it may be through British Telephone.

If he calls me using my US toll free 866 number, he gets charged by his phone company.

I am unsure as to how the British version of Vonage works, but I want to know if he can get a virtual number there for a 570 US area code, and if there are problems with Vonage in England before I am able to recommend that he and Mrs get Vonage .

BTW what are the costs for UK Vonage, including hardware?

The dialling code for Newmarket (01638) xxxxxx (inc Mildenhall etc) doesn't appear to be available on Vonage uk yet.

However they could get a Cambridge (01223) xxxxxx number then change it to (01638) xxxxxx when that code becomes available.

To check Vonage prices in uk etc. Go to www.vonage.co.uk

Service for me seems to be very good after a few problems initially and have been using it since may.

They should be able to get a vitual number for your US area. I think they charge £2.99 for a virtual number, but again you can check this at the uk website.

Hope this helps.

I would definitely recommend signing up to Vonage. What more if you have a freephone number in the states you won't need a virtual number because calls to the usa that start 00800 are free too from the UK (according to my dashboard advert)

I have had Vonage for a week now and love it, connects every time and I love the simulring option. I would deffo recommend signing up.

Thanks for the help.

What does Vonage charge in the UK?

Is broadband available alone, or does the subscriber have to use British Telephone (or watever)? Here in the USA we have to go through the television cable to get broadband.

Does an ordinary linksys router with RJ11 and RJ45 cable ports work, or is something else required?

In the UK Vonage is £9.99 for unlimited landline calls day or night... calls to mobiles at 15p per min maximum which is excellent, and go down to 10p then to 5p at certain times.

I don't have a landline at all, I just have NTL's broadband service... Your son would need to check with the people in his area. If your son went for ADSL he may need to have a phone line anyway... but best to check around for the best deal and bounce prices off each of the company's in the bid for a better deal.

With regards to the router, you can't use your own router you have bought, you have to use the one Vonage send out, however they connect into whatever system you have, as long as you have a broadband connection all should be ok.

Coz i'm still quite new to all this I stand to be corrected, but I believe this is all correct.

Good luck , lets us know how you get on.
