Voip is working great now especially on the new Fiber highspeed we just got. Ok now here's the deal folks. i went outside and completely disconnected the house from the NID. I twisted the "blue and white with blue" formerly red and green and nothing happened. Now I do have an independent lead running on the outside of the house but I should at least have everything running but that one I thought. so I twisted them all together. help me out here as I thought closed loop system would make this all work here.

No! The Vonage adapter closes the loop. You should twist together all the reds and twist together all the greens (or blue/white and white/blue) but please don't twist the reds with the greens.

Finally, for best quality please use telephone splices instead of twisting together or using wire nuts. You will get much better quality in the long run.

ok I'm with ya so far. Here's the deal though. I only have two sets of wires at the NID that are from the inside. One is that sole extension running on the outside and the other goes into the house. And your right they are white w/blue and blue. But by connecting the blue and whites together all that will do is connect all the inside leads to that one outside lead. Keep in mind that all the outlets on the inside are all run in series. PLease be patient as I am competent and open to new instruction.

It will help if you can stop visualizing the NID at the end. Vizualize the NID as an unforunate splice in the middle somewhere. You also have to deal with the fact that your adapter may be in the middle.

The only place the white/blue and blue/white (it's hard to see, but there should be a faint white stripe on the blue) ever connect is inside a phone or inside the adapter.

Code:

  Blue   +---------+NID+------------+------------+-----------+
       Phone                      Phone       Adapter      Phone
  White  +---------+NID+------------+------------+-----------+

Notice there is nothing crossing at the NID.

Does this help?

Have an idea what your getting at although I am not exactally sure how to move forward here. I just want to know how to fix it. I can always go buy a new phone system although I have dishnetwork and without going online to order ppv I need the rec. to be plugged to a phone line. I can deal without that but I'd like to not have to. What I do know is that all the phone lines are in series. other than the one extension that runs outside. Please help.

Please describe how you currently have it configured and what is happening in a little more detail.

At the NID, you should connect all of the blue wires together and you should connect all the white wires together. When you plug the adapter into a phone jack all of the phone jacks should have dial tone.

If they don't then disconnect wires in the NID and see what jacks have dialtone. I would suggest at that point that you buy a modular jack and temporarily install it in the NID. This can help you determine what wires have Vonage dial tone. You can then connect the remaining wires to that jack and check for dial tone again.

If you don't get dial tone at that point you have a wiring problem. Post your results and we can go from there.
