PostPosted: Mon Sep 05, 2005 1:25 am    Post subject: No dial tone using Linksys RTP300 and D-Link DCM-202 Reply with quote Back to top

Hello folks,

Wondering if anyone can help me. My connection is as follows:

1) cable internet to the DCM-202 router
2) blue ethernet cable from the "ethernet" port on the DCM-202 router to the Linksys RTP300's "Internet" port
3) phone line cable from phone to the green phone line #1 port on RTP300

Problems: there is no light for Phone #1 even though the internet light is flashing blue and no dial tone.

I use Comcast, and my download speed is 2.20 Mbps and upload speed is 372 kbps. Internet is working fine. Any ideas? Thanks! Smile

I assume you've tried cycling power on the RTP300 without changing anything else (?). What happens if you temporarily eliminate the DCM-202 and plug the RTP300 internet port directly into the cable modem?

Steve and Mattrobwal,

Steve, your suggestion would have worked if mattrobwal's config was a bit different. mattrobwal labeld the dcm-202 as a router but in fact it appears at least to me to be a cable modem which he cannot remove from the config.

mattrobwal, my suspicion is that your dcm-202 is looking for your computer's NIC (network interface card) mac address. Would it be possible for you to try cloning it in the configuration page for the rtp300?

also, i have read in other posts that after you finish connecting the system to always power down everything and re-start in proper sequence (i.e. modem first until all lights are solid, then turn on the rtp300 until all lights are on, then finally turn on your computer). Try it in this order.

let us know, mundy5

Maybe your DCM-202 router is not setup as a DHCP server? You're RTP300 just may not be getting an IP address, possibly.
You can also plug a computer into a RTP300 LAN port to access the web interface to change the Internet(WAN) port of the RTP300 to a static IP address if you want. Once you are in you might want to enable the http management option so you can manage the device's Internet IP so you don't have to attach to its LAN port.

I'd be grateful if anyone could help, i've been trying for 2 weeks to get this working: Internet works, but no dial tone

Here's my setup:
1) Co-axial to Thomson digital broadband cable modem(TCM425)
2) Modem to RTP300

3) Rtp300 to computer

Ive got internet access through the phone adapter, but no phone light or dial The guys at Vonage cant help me, despite hour-long phone calls to them. Polite, but a little slow.

Gren,

You might want to start a brand new post/thread as this one is burried down in another thread.

Try doing a hard reset to your Vonage RTP300 (press and hold button in back until power recycles) and WAIT for about 5 minutes. See if the phone#1 LED is solid blue after blinking a few times. Have you also reset your modem?

If that doesn't work, call Vonage CS again and ask for a tier 2 person, make sure they have your RTP300 MAC registered, and stay on the line with them until you have a satisfactory resolution; (fixed and get a dialtone or get a RTP300 replacement.) 2 weeks to get a dilatone is sure a loooong time to give them!

Gren,

I agree with what Vonager has told you. Also, please make a test call at www.testyourvoip.com before you call customer service. If it works, then copy the detailed results and be prepared to discuss them with the tech. If it doesn't work, discuss that with Vonage as well, but you may have a problem with your internet service.

could it be that the ISP VPN is interfering with the phone adapter? I need to dial up each time the computer goes on, name and password too.
