PostPosted: Sun Sep 04, 2005 3:24 pm    Post subject: No incoming calls on DGL-4300/RT31P2 Reply with quote Back to top

Hi

Let me start off by saying I don't generally receive a lot of calls so I don't know exactly for how long I have had this problem but my guess would be since early August. OK, now here's my problem. I have the following setup:

Motorola SurfBoard SB4200 -> DLink DGL-4300 (F/W v1.4) -> Linksys RT31P2 (F/W v1.3)

I don't seem to be getting any incoming calls. Some have made it through but most either get through to voicemail or get an error message of some sort. I thought at first it had something to do with a MAC address filter I had applied on my DGL-4300. Even though I had permitted my RT31P2 to access the network using what I thought was the devices only MAC address, low and behold after viewing the logs on the DGL-4300, I found out it had a second one. I removed the MAC filter assuming this would correct the problem. It did, but only for one call then it stopped working again. I tried completly resetting the DGL-4300 and the RT31P2 to factory settings then rebuilding the settings bit by bit. Again, this worked for one call then stopped.

Having viewed other posts in these forums, I have in turn turned off SIP and created special rules to permit all traffic to and from the RT31P2. This didn't work. I am at a loss to see what is going wrong. Can anyone suggest something for me to get this working again. If any more info is needed, just ask and I will do my best to provide it.

First check - plug the Linksys directly into the SB4200 and see if it works. If it doesn't, then at least you know it's broken Smile

Have you followed the instructions for configuring the DGL-4300 on the Vonage help pages?

I'll try that when I get home. I don't think I made it clear before that I was making and receiving calls without problems until early-mid august.

Any chance you could give me the link to the Vonage instructions on configuring the DGL-4300? I've looked but can't seem to find them. They're probably staring me in the face.

Nothing explicit, just general instructions:

http://www.vonage.co.uk/

Select Help thenInstallation then the adapter you're using. There, pick the option for How do I use the Linksys Phone Adapter behind a firewall?. This will take you to:

http://www.vonage.co.uk/help.php?article=452&category=41&nav=3

Anyway, that it used to work doesn't mean it still does - that's why you need to check. It could be that the unit developed a fault some time last month.

I'd also suggest working through the troubleshooting section on the Vonage Help site: http://www.vonage.co.uk/help.php?category=4&nav=4

I did what you suggested and it didn't do any good. I decided to phone Vonage customer services and after being transferred about 4 times to different people, I was told that a techie from the UK division would call me back in about 5 minutes. An hour later, the guy called. I have to say this guy was really helpful and walked me through a number of things, most of which I'd tried already. He suggested switching the connected phone to see if this made a difference. Now I should say here that we have two BT Easicom 1000 phones in my house, one connected to my Vonage line and the other to a regular landline. I switched my Easicom for the other Easicom and in the process didn't plug the phones power adaptor back in. To my surprise the phone rang. I switched back to my old phone, again not plugging the power adaptor back in and it still rang. The guy reckoned the problem was a dodgy lead as that is what the evidence suggested (I didn't mention the power thing to him as I didn't realise it was important then) and I agreed with him. After I ended the call with him, I went about trying to find the cable fault. I plugged everything back in (without power adaptor) and it rang. Plugged adaptor back in and the problem came back. I figure that when the power is plugged in, everything stops working. Unplug it and it works again. Why would this be? It used to work with the power supply attached just fine then all of a sudden it doesn't.

Don't know anything about the Easicom I'm afraid (and you don't provide any details). Does it work without the power supply (obviously it rings, but you don't say if it works)?

Could be something related to tone changes etc they made last month (trawl the board for details). Could just be bad timing.

Yeah, it does work without the power. The phone will ring and if I answer it, I can have the conversation no problem.

The Easicom 1000 was the first e-mailing phone I believe. The extra power allows access to its more "advanced" features such as phonebook, call log and caller ID. These are features I'd like to keep so I don't really want to run the phone without the extra power.

I'll e-mail customer support to see if they can shed any light on the tone changes thing you mentioned, as well as look through the forums.

Thanks for all your help so far

What firmware do you have on the DGL-4300? Mine reboots whenever I use my Vonage phone with anything above 1.3. Note 1.3 works

I'm running version 1.4 of the firmware. The problem started to occur when I was using 1.3 too.

All this time later, I can still only use my phone when it's not plugged in to the mains. If it's plugged in and I try to call it to test it, I either get sent straight to voicemail or the call just disconnects. Unplug it from the mains, and it will ring. Strange eh.
