I have had my 300 for over a month now and it has never had to be rebooted. I have charter cable and am loving the Vonage service!

I have an RT31P2 and was thinking about the RTP300. Is it worth is to switch. Everyone says to but I see these issues. I have changed my setup and now the Voip router only handles the two lines I have and then goes through my WRT54GS with MAC level QoS set to the highest. So far no problems...

it's up to you really...If your RT31P2 is working a-ok for you then roll with it...For me, mine would last about three months then kick up the daisies...
MY experience has been rock solid with the RTP300. I have not had any of the disconnects others have, the clarity is better, and looks cooler. Wink

I have been having the same problems, which is too bad because I really wanted to get rid of Verizon.

I lose my dialtone in less than hour. I do not even use the service because I would have to power cycle my RTP300 every hour.

I just upgraded the firmware this evening and opened ALL the ports on my main Internet router to the RTP300. Hopefully this will work. If not, I suspect I have a bad RTP300 . However, it is NOT worth 90 minutes on the phone with Vonage to get a new router, though. Vonage support is probably the worst I have dealt with.

Vonage has the absolute worst customer service because they freaking shipped it to India and using Indian robots who just keep reading a list of instructions without thinking or listening to what you say. Mad

In fairness to Vonage... I emailed support again and they issued me a new rtp300. It was worked flawlessly for 3 days now.

So, it seems I had a bad router. Blame CISCO/Linksys.

I have to agree that Linksys routers are unreliable. In fact, I had to change my Linksys wireless router 3 times

I know, old post, but I do disagree with you on that one. I have a router that's still going and the only reason I've had to reset it is because of moving and setup of Vonage.

On regards to the RTP300. I dont know if I loose dial-tone, but I do know that I can't get any outbound ip requests to establish connection to a DNS server to resolve the name. I find that I have to release and renew my IP on my RTP300 in order to get a DNS server to respond. To note, I have a motorola SurfBoard with Comcast. Also to note, I leave my laptop on (because it's my main PC for now) and my messengers running, and they still seem to work. But that's most likely do to the fact that those DNS names are already resolved.

I can't help but notice that a lot of people who are having problems with their RTP 300 are describing situations that sound as if a power outage took place.

We have frequent power outages in Boston. So here's a tip:

1) If your power goes out, even for a brief moment, you may need to "Power Cycle" because the phone adapter/router (like any router) may not be able to re-establish a connection if it turns on at the same time as the cable modem.

2) To power cycle you unplug from the end of the chain of modem/routers in reverse order working back to the cable modem. Wait a minute or two. Then plug each unit back in beginning with the cable modem and working your way to the end of the chain.

My set up looks like this: Cable modem -> RTP 300 -> Airport Express router.

When I power cycle I unplug the Airport Express, then I unplug the RTP 300, then I unplug the cable modem. I wait a few minutes and then I plug-in the cable modem, then the RTP 300, then the Airport Express.

I've noticed people unplugging the cable modem while leaving the RTP 300 powered... that's a recipe for bad behavior!
