Sounds like you spoke with one person one time now your entire opinions are based on one person's point of view.
I work with linksys products everyday and I hear so many people who don't understand how they work and talk like that.
Thats like a customer the other day said to me he disliked XP PRO because of all the bugs in it.
I said what bugs, he didn't know which bugs, he heard from someone else it had bugs but didn't know because he never really worked with it.

Once an old saying "believe nothing of what you see, and half of what you hear"

sure XP had its bugs what new operating system doesn't ?????

Vonage used a Cisco ATA 186 phone device until just a few months ago (I signed up on September 24, 2003 and got one). They have switched to the Motorola MTA phone device. After watching this forum for a while, it appears to me that the Motorola device solved some problems that the Cisco device had, but it introduced other problems.

At the time I ordered Vonage, they recommended the Netgear router. I bought the one they recommended, plugged everything in according to the directions and it all worked. I did not need to do any port forwarding, etc.

I was really just trying to clarify your blanket statement that the router has to have the ports open or Vonage will not work. It may be true for the Motorola unit, but not everyone has the Motorola unit...

I may be wrong, but I think that this will always be a problem if your MTA is on the LAN side of your router and you use NAT on the router. I had this exact same problem with 2 MTAs on the LAN side of an SMC router and I couldn't get rid of it until I put the MTA on the WAN side of the router. Then the problem went away immediately. Notice that there was no change in the MTA, just where it was placed.

I think that is why the user manual suggests that the MTA be the very first device you plug after your cable or dsl modem.
