Got the new firmware today. The first thing I did was call my wife at work (yes, she works on weekends Cry ). She told me she still heard an echo when she talked.

I then rebooted the WRTP54G, just to be on the safe side, and called again. She still heard an echo. When she called me a bit later, she also heard it.

I'm bummed. I really had high hopes for this one based on my emails and conversations with Vonage tech support.

Hmm...this really begs the question "what are the changes?" I've not noticed any yet...but at the same time, I know engineers & programmers are lazy by nature & wouldn't go through the effort of writing firmware if there no difference.

Heh...I manage a group of engineers and programmers in our internal IT shop, and one of my biggest problems is convincing them that "perfect is the enemy of good". They want to continue working on something until it is perfect even if it is already good enough for our users.

My result with the new firmware, better, but still not great.

My history:
I had the echo pretty bad, all my callers heard it. Last week I had a vonage rep who found a help note that told him to switch my RTP300 from using phone line 1 to line 2. That cut my echo back a lot, but you could still get an echo if a caller made a quick, stacotto sound, like "hey".

I got the firmware sometime Saturday, I noticed it around 9pm EST, so I gave it a test. Again, I think the echo is better than it was after the line switch, but still not perfect. It's at least good enough now for me to not send everything back for my 30 day trial (which ends tomorrow).

My setup:
Panasonic 2.4 to RTP300 to an SB4100 Cable modem with Comcast.

Having any hopes for the WRTP54G was your second mistake (getting a WRTP54G being the first). Unfortunately for me I've made both as well.

In the worst case, I cancel Vonage and have a free 802.11g router after the rebate (I traded in my 802.11b router) . As a wireless router, the device has performed flawlessly. And if I don't get the rebate as scheduled, I will raise Cain. I'll give it another month until my 3 month rebate period is over. If things aren't better by then, Verizon gets me back as a customer.

This may sound odd, but is it to certain calling areas?

Also, found this on bbr.com

There is a new verision of firmware jsut release 2 days ago that resolved this issue with echo on RTP300 BOXES and the wireless boxes. The version in your router should be 1.00.45. You can also download the file here and upgrade your router.

httpconfig.vonage.net/rt-11.1.0-r021-1.00.45-r050823.img

Once you log into the router type the following address
192.168.15.1/update.html If you get ask for a user name or password

As far as I know, everyone hears the echo. It's not just to certain areas.

Fortunately, I have a reasonably good tech contact at Vonage, so I'll get in touch tomorrow. Vonage played around with the settings on my WRTP54G quite a bit trying to get rid of the echo. Maybe they need to reset things.

By the way, it took me a minute to realize that by BBR.COM you meant BroadBandReports.com. Y'know, there really is a BBR.COM? It's a wine shop. Very Happy

LOL, I visited the wine shop myself. Please let us know what your contact says... People still hearing the reverse echo issue with my RTP300. The fact that this firmware release (v1.00.45) didn't address it makes me nervous about any near term resolution.

Ha! My apologies with bbr.com. I guess I should 1) spell it out correctly next time and 2) check out the wine shop! Very Happy

The only reason I ask is that I have not been getting any echo except lately to Dallas...
