PostPosted: Sat Sep 03, 2005 8:18 am    Post subject: setup instructions for Motorola VT1000 + linksys WRT54G Reply with quote Back to top

Problem: Either I can have my Voip working but I cannot surf the web or I can surf the web but I have to disconnect my VT-1000 so I cannot use the Voip.

Original setup: wall - cisco modem - VT1000 - linksys WRT54G. In this setup I get Voip but I am not able to surf.

Therefore, I am currently with: wall - cisco - linksys but then why am I paying Vonage???

I tried phone support but without success. I sent a mail to support also but without response.

Please advise.

Are you just using the Linksys for wireless network support?

If so, you can just use it like a WAP (Wireless Access Point):

  1. Configure the WRT54G router to have a LAN ip address in the LAN range used by the VT1000
  2. Disable the DHCP server on the WRT54G router
  3. Connect one of the LAN ports on the VT1000 to one of the LAN (and _not_ WAN) ports on the WRT54G router

Try running the Motorola TA on one of the four WRT54G router ports. You don't need to open any ports for the TA to work. The Motorola TA's are notoriously poor routers - ignore the LAN port on the TA Very Happy

Be sure to use one of the latest Linksys firmwares (or a 3rd party firmware) for best Voip QoS.

Thanks for the suggestions. The simplest one appears to be to connect the Motorola to the Linkwys router ethernet ports. The problem is that the Motorola adapter keeps trying to connect through PPOE. I am trying to access the phone adapter through http://192.168.102.1 with no success. Any suggestions or link where to know how can I change the configuration of Motorola phone adapter?

192.168.102.1 WAS the factory default address for the VT. Remember, it's only accessible through the PC port, not the WAN port. You need to get to the setup screen and disable PPPoE

If you can't connect, someone has probably reconfigured it. If the VT is still set up for DHCP, you can look at the WRT's log file or DHCP client table to see what IP address is right.

If the VT is set to a static IP, I think you can still look at the WRT log files and see what IP is 'making noise'.

The Linksys WRT54G router you mentioned in your first post.

If you connect the VT to one of the ethernet ports of the Linksys router, you can look at the administration screens of the router and hopefully see whats going on with the VT.

I connected the PC port of the VT to one of the four ethernet ports of the WRT. I tried http://192.168.102.1 with no response.

I got into the WRT administrative screen but I do not know what to find.

I sent a mail to Vonage support for instructions with NO response after three days.
