Ihave had no "serious problem using my Voip and Internet access using the Linksys Router RT31P2 since February 2005. About 2 days ago I could not get access to the Internet but the phone works fine. Call Comcast and after connecting my LAN network cable directly to my Modem, it works fine. I have tried using all the ports on the RT31P2 Router (the same ports that work on the phone fine) without any success.

Any suggestions of a fix? It seems the Router is bad (at least for Internet Access)

Going through these posts it seems there is a new Voip{ Router (RT300). Do you have to go through Vonage to buy it or can you go to Best Buy to get it?

Thanks for any help as I go to disconnect my PC in order to connect the RT31P2 to make a phone call. ;-(

I had a similar problem recently. I would lose my internet connection and phone connection completely. My internet works fine if I just plug the cable modem directly to my computer. I reset the router, worked for a little while and then gone again. After reset my router every day two to three times a day for 4 days, I finally decided to call Vonage. The first couple of calls did not solve the problem. One even told me to check with my own ISP saying that my ISP maybe resetting my router. I called my ISP and they firmly denied it and said "Sir, can you believe the amount of phone calls from mad customers we would get if we reset everyone's router?" It made great sense to me. So I called Vonage back. This time a gentleman from India answered the phone, though hard to understand him, it took him literally 5 seconds to tell me he needed to UPGRADE me to the NEWEST FIRMWARE. He did it in 1 minute and my phone has been working fine ever since. Knock on wood.

By the way, they did send a new router in the mail. It was RTP300. I knew my old router inside out and it is working like a charm right now, so I decided it's not worth the trouble to figure out a whole new trouble shooting routine. So I returned the RTP300 and kept my old RTP31P2.

The Firmware is automatically pushed to your device, sabawaka. I would recommend calling tech support and requesting a replacement router, assuming you got it from them and didn't buy it retail.
I would also push to get the RTP300...

Trowski,

what is the differece between RTP300and RT31P2? I tried to hook up the new RTP300 they sent me but it kept telling the phone might be pluged in the wrong port whic it was not. I could not get a dial tone, got tired of troubling shooting problems for a whole week and returned it. Thanks in advance.

I called Vonage Technical Suport and got my problem solved as follows:

1. While connecting my Modem directly to my PC, he asked me to check my IP address and other DNS Server addresses.

2. Went into Control Panel and change for "Automatic Selection of IP Address" to "Manual"

3. Change the IP address from what was detected to something different for the RT31P2 Router. It worked.

Current Setup:

Modem-->RT31PN-->Linksys Wireless Modem-->Ethernet to Desktop PC

Well now I cannot connect to my wireless network. I connected the RT31P2 Router to my linksys wireless router and my Desk PC is connected directly to one opf the ports on the Wireless Router. That PC accesses the Internet fine. Hopwever, my Laptop cannot access the Interenet wireless now and previously could. Sure it has to do with changing to a Manual IP address that the Vonage Tech gave me. Not too familiar with "MAnual" vs "Automatic" IP address and how this may be affecting my access through my laptop.

Any help to resolve my wireless access will be appreciated
