What's the deal now? It seems like a new problem every week. Any advice on what to do with the echo problem?
I am using a new Linksys router with Comcast 6 meg high speed and new panosonic phones.
I don't understand the "firmware" update issue but if this is the cure, I would really like to know how to implement it. It would be soooo nice if Vonage would shoot an email out about that sort of thing like they do on the 911 issue. |

It would really help if you posted what kind of Vonage adapter you are using. See http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic7191.html for a description of what to post when you are having technical difficulties.
If you have the WRTP54G or RTP300, we expect a firmware update this weekend which seems to resolve the echo issue. Some of us have been working with Vonage technical support which is testing the new firmware.
The firmware should be pushed to your adapter automatically by Vonage; no action required on your part. Unfortunately, this fails sometimes and some people have had to install the updates on their own. You can expect to see a link somewhere in this forum to where to download the firmware when it becomes available. At least that's what I've seen for the last 2 updates.
For now, the best thing to do is to point your browser to your adapter (usually 192.168.15.1 unless you changed it, as I did) and look at the firmware version in the upper right hand corner. When it is updated, the version number will change. The current firmware for the 2 devices I mentioned is 1.00.43. When you see a number greater than that, it means you received the update. |

HI, I have a regular wrt54g router which is not inclusive with Vonage, I use the Vonage pap2 adapter and this combo works great... very little echo. But what I have learned from Vonage and from my experience as little as it is, is that u only get the echo if one or more of the parties are using cordless phones or headsets. It does not seem to happen to folks who use only 'corded' phones to talk to each other.
I know this is not very practical since most people use cordless these days.
Is there also going to be a new firmware for the pap 2 adapeter. I asked Vonage and they told me what version I have and hadn't said there would be an update for that. they ought to though for people like myself who already had a wireless router and didn't want to buy another router. I just used the pap 2 adapter and connected it to the router and all is fine. I even got the latest firmware from linksys for my router.
