No. SoftPhone is only available as an option that includes its own number and 500 minutes.

Post subject: They should offer it for free
I think it stinks that they don't offer it for free for current
Vonage
customers. Like right now, my adaptor appears to be dead in the water. How am I supposed to use my service with dead equipment? They've got a way, but not unless I'm willing to cough up more money for it.
Sorry, just slightly disgruntled right now.

Post subject: Virtual ATA PAP2
Ok, so you have a Linksys device from
Vonage
preconfigured with Vonage's gateway, password, and username. This router's MAC address must be registered with
Vonage
. Right? The linksys just establishes a connection with
Vonage
using PAP2 protocol and acts as a FXS for legacy TDM wired CPE devices, fax machines, modems, and phones. This partnership with Linksys and XTEN/Counterpath smacks of early Bell forced-use equipment. So surely Vonage's intent is quality of service, its much easier to ensure said quality if all users receive the same equipment and software. But what about the 5% of us who would like to integrate
Vonage
services into existing technologies.
so, is there a virtual ATA software that can use say, a digium FXO card, so that one could use XTEN or SJPhone with an Asterisk gateway? If not, we need an app like this. Just an app so that we can communicate with Vonage's gateway.

pj,
Your post is in violation of the forums rules because you are violating the
Vonage
Terms of Service, by obtaining the SIP credentials and then by attempting to use your primary line in a non-approved fashion.
If you need a SoftPhone then I suggest that you pay the monthly fee required. For most people the savings
Vonage
provides would easily cover another $10 for a SoftPhone. For some people moving to a 500 minute primary account can offset the cost of adding the SoftPhone feature.
You may not agree with Vonage's decision not to permit SoftPhone use with a primary line, but if you can't respect it then you should switch providers, not violate the terms of service.
Quote:
2.8 Tampering with the Device or Service.
You shall not change the electronic serial number or equipment identifier of the Device or to perform a factory reset of the Device without our prior written consent. We reserve the right to disconnect your Service if we believe, in our sole and absolute discretion, that you have tampered with the Device. In the event of such disconnection, you will remain responsible for the full month's charges to the end of the current term, including, without limitation, unbilled charges, plus a disconnection fee, if applicable, all of which will immediately become due and payable. You shall not attempt to hack or otherwise disrupt the Service or make any use of the Service that is inconsistent with its intended purpose.

come on
come down , i didn't violate anything. i just said its possible because everyone said its impossible.
i didn't say how they should do it and no lead to do it . i just said it is possible and it is a forum and we can talk free.
I didn't teach anyone how to do it. i have 2
Vonage
lines by my self and hate using softphone .
It was just an experiment which was successful and instead of saying in forum its impossible , i just gave the the news that its possible . its like you say if someone say windows have security problem in port number #### which someone can access to the system , its violating of ........................ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
May i ask you something ? do you work for
Vonage
?!
and second : why when they can give you more options and make you enjoy your service and gain more customers, they force people to sign up for second line and all those people are complaining .
I know
Vonage
now have some difficulties if i use my softphone and adaptor together and they are working on it , but its not right to charge me extra for what i have .
Anyway guys don't ask me how to do it because i cant say and as this guy said its violation on forum law and also
Vonage
. just i told you its possible , if you can do it by your own , thats good for you , otherwise no help from my side .

Post subject: Yes, calm down everyone
You should place a Linux box between the
Vonage
box and your Internet. Sniff the packets and find out what is happening. It is your network and you are paying for it, both
Vonage
and Internet. You have the right to sniff any/all packets coming in and out.
Vonage
has the right to terminate your service if you modify the CPE in such a way that is detectable.
Agreed, softphone sux and getting free or paying for it is a losing proposition as TDM phone lines are the biz for a reason, they work great.

There is a simple free solution ... Skype. You can use it for Mobile or Pocket PC and you can get a number for dial-ins too.
