Post subject: Potential New User... A Few Questions
I've been doing some reading on there forums, but I still have a couple of questions.
First, I'm a bit confused about the whole cancellation fee and how it relates to equipment. I read on this forum that the cancellation fee is either $40 or $99. Which is it? Or could it be either one based on where you got your equipment (i.e. free from
Vonage
or at a retail store).
Second, if I sign up for the service at vonage.com they will send me an adpater free, correct? Is this adapter basically the same thing as the basic PAP2 adapter you can buy at a local store? If I choose to buy the adapter at a local store, do I still have to return it to
Vonage
upon cancellation? (this may relate to my first question).
Third, are they any other hidden costs that will appear on my bill? For example, if I sign up for the $24.99 unlimited plan what will my final bill be each month (roughly)?
Thanks!

Does
Vonage
apply a termination fee?
Yes.
Vonage
will apply a $39.99 termination fee when you cancel your account within the first year of service. If you cancel within the Money Back Guarantee period of 30 days and return your device within 14 days of your cancellation, the termination fee will be refunded.

Use Vonage's
Cost Calculator
for an exact amount you would pay each month.

Thanks... I guess the only thing you didn't answer is what device you get free from
Vonage
when you sign up. Is it the same thing as the PAP2 (2 port basic phone adapter) or something else?

I received an RTP300, which is a two phone line adapter and a four port router rolled into one. I signed up about 3 weeks ago.

I got to say my service has been great. Only twice did I have any type of drop in service. And both times I was "hammering" on my Internet connection, trying to break things.
Going from about $120/month with Verizon to $50 for Vonage.....no brainer! (2 lines)

This isn't entirely accurate is it? I've always read and been told that if you go to a store and buy the device yourself, then decide to cancel there is no termination fee. The termination fee only applies if
Vonage
gives you a device.

For you guys that got the RTP300 from Vonage... how long did it take for the device to arrive after you signed up?
And I thought of another question... I saw on their site that you get to choose the area code you would like to have, but is there any way to ensure that you get an actual local number? I'd hate to sign up with
Vonage
only to end up with a number that would be long distance to my local friends who don't have
Vonage
.

The Terms of Service don't exclude retail customers from the termination fee. You may be thinking of the 14 day trial period. During that time you can return the device and not have to pay the termination fee.

You can choose the city your number is in. This should allow you to have a number that is local to your friends. However
Vonage
does not have local numbers everywhere.
