About a week ago, a Vonage tech told me that we would be getting a firmware update to fix the echo issue that I've been experiencing. Right now, anyone who calls me hears their own voice echoed back.

Today, the same Vonage tech called my house. He said that he had received a beta version of the new firmware and was calling me from a WRTP54G that was using the new firmware. He asked if I could hear an echo when I talked to him and I told him that I didn't.

He called again a few minutes later, saying that he had flashed the firmware back to the old version. With the old version I DID hear an echo So it looks like the echo is a firmware problem and the the new version will fix it.

The tech said we should have the new firmware either by this weekend or early next week. I have to say, I'm very impressed with the diligence and follow through on this issue. I've only been with Vonage for 2 months, but they really seem to be trying to address the problem.

Great news! Now my wife will stop complaining about the decision to switch to Vonage Lol

I have the RTP300, same issue. I showed my wife your posting and we had a good laugh as it's been a challenge keeping her on board with others complaining about the echo. Seems like Fridays are firmware days so I am looking forward to it! All along the sound quality has been great on our side so I hope this does it!

You know I had forgot, but talking to my Dad on the day I got my Voip he talked about an echo. I have that Linksys router. I haven't had someone complain again, but I am going to update my firmware just to be sure. Thanks for posting!

Your signature says that you have a WRT54G. The fix is for the WRTP54G. Note the P after the T. I don't think this update is for you, but I could be mistaken. In any case, Vonage should do the update automatically..

Oops, my bad. I suspect then you are using the WRT54GP etc. etc. because Linksys doesn't show a product with a P after the T. I had assumed a typo. Either way, maybe that is why it isn't a constant problem. But I do appreciate the info because it reminded me that updating the firmware could be no worse than chicken soup unless that patch is from Microsoft Lol Hopefully my Dad won't hear that echo again again again again. Wink
