Post subject: Using Vonage and Packet 8 together
I know it's overkill, but I'm a techno freak and had to have both
Vonage
and Packet 8 to play with.
Vonage
is my primary SIP phone and plenty of people have my
Vonage
phone number. My kids and I use it hourly. I've had my Packet 8 phone unplugged most of the time because if both SIP devices are plugged in and either phone rings, you just get static. Tonight, I discovered a solution by reading a post on another board about
Vonage
busy signals.
I went into my router settings and directed ports 5060 and 5061 (UDP) to go to my
Vonage
ATA 186 device. With both the ATA 186 and the DTA 310 plugged into my home network, incoming calls rang on my
Vonage
phone and worked perfectly. Outgoing calls on either phone worked fine. Next, I called my Packet 8 number using a cell phone. My
Vonage
phone rang (due to the port redirection) and the call went through fine.
Is there any practical value to this? I doubt it. But what else is there to do in Richburg, SC except tinker with SIP phones on a home network?
