Hi,
I'll be sharing a DSL line with other roommates and I want to make sure my Vonage voice quality is not impacted whatsoever.
What can I do on the router to make sure my Vonage line is not affected by the jitter of other users utilizing the connection?
Thanks. |

I believe it is just a DSL modem going to a standard DLink router, then 3 computers hooked up to the DLink Router. |

If your Vonage ATA is a router, you could try putting it before the Dlink. You could also replace the Dlink with a router with QoS functionality. |

What type of Voip adapter do you have? |

I think I have the Motorola adapter.
By the way, I find these products on Dlink's site:
http://www.dlink.com/products/category.asp?cid=11&sec=0
I assume all of these products have QOS built-in so that activity by the other DSL users will not affect my voice quality in any way (as long as the router with QOS is hooked up directly to the DSL modem)?
But is there a big difference if I get the "VoIP Accelerator" versus a regular router?
Additionally, is the BusinessIP phone better quality than a regular VTech cordless that I use?
Thanks! |

I made the same assumption with my WRTP54G -- after all, it's a router and adapter in one, how could it not give proper QOS priority to voice traffic? Turns out it can't worth a crap. If my computers are using too much of my upload bandwidth when placing a phone call, I say hello to poor quality (choppy) outgoing audio.
I'd suggest searching these forums for any piece of equipment you're considering buying, and gauging how well it works or doesn't for the users who post here. While most posts will tend to be by someone with a problem, users with success with a product will often reply. |
