Hello all! I am hoping that someone has some ideas on how to fix an issue I am having. Here are my details:

1. Comcast Broadband (Dallas, TX area)
2. Motorola SB5120 Surfboard Modem (recently changed out from an RCA modem provided by Comcast, to try and rectify my problem).
3.D-Link DI-604 Router (Recently changed out from a Linksys BEFSX41 router to try and rectify my problem).
4. PAP2 Vanage Phone Adapter

Now, since day one of using Vonage, my internet connection with comcast would drop 3-4 times a week. I had to completely reboot al of my devices to get my connection back. This was irritating but I thought Comcast was having some issues. As the weeks went on, My internet connection began dropping 2-4 times a day. This is rediculous! I went ahead and changed out my modem first. This did not help the situation. I then replaced my router. This did not help the situation. I then just took the PAP2 adapter off my network and wallah.... I have not dropped my connection once in the past 2 weeks. Does anyone have a similar story? Frankly, if I cannot get Vonage to function with comcast, I will end up having to drop Vonage. Does anyone have any ideas or hints that may fix this issue?

Thanks!

JUH

I know this might be a long shot but try replacing the cat5/ethernet cable from the router to the pap2 the ethernet cable might have a wire or two crossed that is causing feedback hence dropping the net and your phone service. Let me know how it works out.

OOh now this sounds like a sticky problem..... at first it sounded as though a virus had enterd your PC. Do you run the free version of Adaware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

or something similiar {{{adaware has been protecting me for months & my 3 PC's}}} Sure everyone has there favorites......

How well will Voip work at my home or office?

The voice quality of Voip is dependent on the speed and quality of your internet connection. We recommended testing your internet connection using www.testmyvoip.com before deciding whether Voip will work well for you. We also suggest running the test several times using the farthest "test city" available from your area. If you consistently receive a 3.5 or higher score, you probably will be satisfied using any Voice-over IP service.

I would like to keep this thread going until this is resolved

Thanks for the replies!

1. Yes, I have completely changed out all of my cables, and even my equipment. Like I said, as soon as I took the PAP2 out of the loop, I have had no drops in my connection to comcast.

2. Yes, I have been a long time user of adaware. I have multiple PC on my network. The PC should make no difference in how my Router functions.

The problem is with the PAP2/Vonage service vs Comcast. For some reason, I think the Comcast servers may not like the requests my PAP2 makes...and it then kills my connection. I do not know know. I am not that technical. All I know is without my PAP2, I have a completely seemless connection to the comcast broadband service. If I put the PAP2 back in....I loose my WAN connection to Comcast 2-4 times a day. I have even tried putting the PAP2 directly on the DMZ....no change. I still got dropped.

I would not put it past comcast to cause me issues if I used a competing service. Afterall...comcast has thier own product, and I bet it works just fine:-).
