I have the basic 500 package. I will be connecting Vonage to my exisiting phone wiring tonight using the instructions found online. Will I be able to fax this way also, or do I have to pay for a seperate phone line, or fax service from Vonage? My adapter is an RTP300.
Thanks, Mike |

You will be able to fax, just remember that it will count against your minutes. Faxing with Voip is kind of hit or miss, your best bet will be to lower the transmission rate of the fax to as slow as possible for the best results. |

True. You can fax, but it will go towards your minutes with that plan. I just sent one out today, 8 pages of a Service Agreement and it went through. |

Not all modern machines will (can) slow down enough and I've heard most FAX/modem cards are hopeless w/ Vonage. I'm using an older Canon stand-alone machine locked to the lowest data rate available in it's firmware (I think it's 4800). It works about 90% of the time - the other 10% needs a re-dial to complete an outgoing transmission. For some reason, incoming seems to work OK almost all the time. I'm not using DSL so all those filter tricks are not useful to me. |

I've had 100% success with faxing on the RTP300 routers that Vonage is currently sending out. Some have found adding a DSL filter between the RTP300 and their FAX machine. I've not needed it with my particular setup, YMMV. I actually run my FAX machine at 33600 baud, ECM on, full everything, basically, and no problems. |

I've got a new little HP standalone personal machine that costs like $80. When faxing a corporate network with a T-1 fax card the fax went through LIGHTNING quick and extremely clear. I saw both ends. I'm running on the RTP300. |

Using *99#, including the comma as a dial prefix will guarantee the maximum quality of the call for data. It works well for me for modem calls. |

Yipes, usually *99 is all you need if you don't already have the bandwidth saver cranked up. |

I have bandwidth saver set to minimum compression and *99#, still gives me better data call connect rates than if I don't use it. I am reasonably sure that it still makes some changes to how the call is compressed and routed. |
