Post subject: Only gone 1 week....SBC already wants me back
After being with SBC for 19+ years, I had my phone number switched to
Vonage
on 1-27-04. Today, I received a letter from SBC, offering to "reconnect" me with them for a "special offer" of $17.95/month (oh yeah...fine print says "Price excludes taxes, fees, subscriber line charge, universal service fee, and installation"). This "special offer" would give me unlimited local calls. Period. No long distance included. 2 features are included in this plan: caller ID and call-forwarding. Fine print also says this "special price" is only for "the first 12 months". Yup....need to sign up for a 1 year contract to get this "deal".
Anyway, I sent them an e-mail stating my current situation:
"Thank you for the letter I received today in the mail, offering free
reconnection to SBC. As the letter states, we have been SBC customers
for some time now (19 years at this location). Throughout that time,
we have had excellent service from SBC. Not one problem that I can
think of. So, having said that, I can assure you that our recent
switch to another carrier was not due to dissatisfaction of any
kind with SBC. The only reason we switched was because of value
received for monies spent. The calling plan we have with our new
carrier,
Vonage
, consists of the following: 500 outgoing minutes/month
(no charge for incoming calls) to anywhere in the United States or
Canada, anytime. The included features are: Caller ID w/name, call
waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calling, voicemail, call transfer,
repeat dialing, call return, real-time online account management,
money back guarantee, and no yearly contract. My cost for this
package, including fees/taxes, is $16.98/month. In
addition, they offer a dedicated fax number which gives me 250
outgoing minutes/month to anywhere in the United States or Canada.
And, like the voice line, all incoming faxes are free. My cost for
this fax line, including taxes/fees, is $10.61/month. Again, with no
yearly contract. As stated previously, we had no problems with SBC for
the many years we had it, and if SBC has a plan similar to what I
currently get from
Vonage
, I would have little problem returning
(happily) to SBC. Thank you for the very good service you provided to
us over the years, and I look forward to your response. Regards, Mike"
Awaiting their response.......

Being able to write that kind of letter must give you a nice warm, fuzzy feeling inside...
I wonder how many more similar letters SBC has to recieve before the lights come on and they realize they have competition!
