Several things:
1. If you can, set your baud rate down to 9600. (Some HPs don't have the instructions in the manuals but you can contact HP directly to get instructions, I'm told.
2. You can try adding *99, as a dialing prefix. I do. It seems to help.
My Motorola device does seem to have more difficulty sending faxes than my Cisco did. Do contact support. They can tweak settings on their end as well. If you happen to have a dsl line filter laying around, slap that on. I did and I did. It can't hurt, right?
good luck,

I made an assumption too -- drops after 2 or 3 pages OUTGOING or INCOMING?
If it's incoming, definitely call support and go over everything you've tried so far. They can change a setting on the vonage end that sometimes help with the throughput.
The *99, is for OUTGOING. Just put that in front of the number --
*99, 1-000-555-1212

Friends,
At the risk of sounding stupid, what does *99 do?
Additionally, are there any other cool * codes that can be used when placing calls for various functions? I mean besides the obvious *70 for call waiting, *69 for last call return...
Thanks! |

*99 doesn't seem to work for my HP PSC 2210 all-in-one. Like always, it tries to connect for 30 secs, and then disconnects.
Then of course, I plug it into a regular phone landline and it faxes perfectly.
Also I understand that HPs aren't configurable as far fax baud rates are concerned. Is this true, does anyone have instructions on how to change it, and if so did it help? |

The *99 prefix forces the ATA to fax/data mode. The ATA is supposed to do this automatically but sometimes it fails to do so. |

Well, it seems there might be a setting that will help with connections like faxes and modems. I've been having trouble with my security system trying to dial out to the central station. There is a setting called Packetazation level that you can get Vonage to change. Changing the level to 10 made my system work flawlessly. Since Fax and the modem are basically the same, you might try this. |

So you are saying that we have to call up Vonage and tell them to increase the "Packetazation level" to 10, in order to get faxes to finally work?
I knew it was something on their end, they love to pass the buck and say it's our hardware.
Thanks for the info, I'll give them a call. |

Well I had Vonage change the packetization level to 10 and that didn't fix the fax problem, not to mention that the audio was made much worst doing so.
So that's another solution that doesn't seem to work. I hope they can figure out how to fix this problem soon. I'm sure that customers that paid or want to pay for a dedicated fax line much be totally fustrated. I am. |
