Ok so I've been with Vonage now for like 3 weeks...1st week went smoothly enough...2nd and 3rd weeks not so smooth. Right now as I type this I can look over at my rack...(SB5100-->linksys rtp300-->netgear 8port 10/100 hub) I can see the "line 1" LED lit but blinking every 20-30 seconds, which means that if I pick up my phone...dead..nothing not even static. A few days ago when I noticed this I power cycled it and it came back up w/o problems. But not tonight...if I http into it it shows that the provisioning succeeded and both lines are idle. I even tried testyourvoip.com and got the following:

Im no Voip expert but I'd say that I could be using a better codec. I'm running .43 firmware and have been out of the box. Maybe if I could ping or tracert the Vonage server I could find out if it's my shytty cable provider... anyone else run into this kind of problem???

well I'm glad that I got such help from the supposed Vonage experts. I live in vicksburg, MS and we could REALLY use our phone, but this POS quits all the bloody time!! I have to power cycle 4-6 times before I get my dial tone back....Im not downloading anything...not uploading anything...no web servers no nothing but this crappy RTP300 still prefers to die. With a 3mb/256k cable drop I'm almost positive that bandwidth is'nt the issue either. It has the lastest firmware (1.00.45), I have the QoS statically set for High on only the three ports Vonage uses, according to the tech rep (5060, 5061, & 10000)...everything else is set to low.

Please can someone help me? We've got family that has been trying to call for a few days now and since we just got electricity restored yesterday and cablelynx got thier act together and brought their DNS boxes back up the phone worked overnight...but all today it's been dead and power cycled numerous times.

I must have missed your post the first time.

Do a forum search on Ping Plotter. Look for instructions on how to set it up to go to a Vonage server using UDP.

This will give you equivalent results to ping or tracert but using the same protocols as are used for Voip. It will help you to locate the source of your problem if it is your Internet connection.

Maybe you did miss it...very fast reply tonight though. Ok so I searched for "Ping Plotter"...I am unable to locate a Vonage IP to ping against.... any clues?

Also I checked out Dr TCP and according to the Vonage speed test I was able to get my QoS up to 83% from 9% before hand. But after saying that...it still doesnt solve my carrier loss during the days...

Set up ping plotter to use UDP packets.
Also, try pinging this IP, 216.115.23.23.

Just as a note, testyourvoip.com has two options, the one for voice quality represents the highest setting for Vonage. The save bandwidth setting represents the normal setting for Vonage.

also when I did this last testyourvoip I checked "conserve bandwidth"... I also logged into my acct and set the "bandwidth saver" to mid-wat or 50k.
