Dear Group,
If I want to change VOIP providers from Vonage to xxxxxxx, can I keep my current vonage phone number? Btw, the number I have wasnt already ported from a POTS line, it was a Vonage number to begin with. Thanks

Andrew,
Sometimes it can be done, sometimes it cannot..It seems like it is a shot in the dark.
Officially they say no, but it has happened... |

Vonage refuses to port their own numbers? Isn't that illegal?
I have a bunch of numbers I will want to port from Vonage service (to a PRI) and I won't be able to?
FYI: These numbers were originally from Vonage. |

According to Vonage's ToS (Terms of Service):
2.11 Number Transfer on Service Termination. Upon the termination of your Service, we may, in our sole and absolute discretion, release to your new service provider the telephone number that you ported (transferred or moved over) to us from your previous service provider and used in connection with your Service if:
* such new service provider is able to accept such number;
* your account has been properly terminated;
* your account is completely current, including payment for all charges and applicable termination fees; and
* you request the transfer upon terminating your account.
Full ToS can be found at:

Oddly enough, they only refer to numbers that were transferred IN. Not their own originated number. I think a call to CS is in order if you depend on those phone numbers. |

After talking to a gentleman named Mike on the phone, this is the response I got.

Suprising & eases some concerns. I hope he is right. |

Vonage calls it Winback (going back to, say, Verizon, from Vonage). Vonage will assume no responsibility for the transfer back, but can possibly asssist if the client provides a PON # (order of xfer back from Vonage) to Vonage.
Don't expect a whole lot.
PS: re. your Vonage response: What's true as stated policy may not exactly play out to be viable, knowwhutimean?? |
