PostPosted: Thu Aug 25, 2005 12:01 am    Post subject: RT31P2 new firmware weird ringing Reply with quote Back to top

Since I noticed the firmware upgrade my phones have a weird ring.
There is a full ring then the next ring is a half ring then another half ring and then maybe a full ring on every incoming call.
This also has an effect on my caller ID. As I watch to see who is calling the display goes blank as usual and then displays "-NO DATA SENT-".
I have had this service for a few months and other than the caller ID time being behind an hour twice there are no problems.
I have an Ambit cable modem connected to the RT31P2 then that is connected to my D-Link router then off to my computers.
I have access to the Ambit's internal page and it is showing that there are no problems as far as signal issues (Downstream Receive Power Level: 12.20 dBmv; Downstream SNR: 32.69 dB; Upstream Transmit Power Level: 42.00 dBmv; which are all within range) and my speed tests including testmyviop results are just as they should be... just fine.
The quality of the service is just fine too.
FYI. I have been through all of the small details... rebooting/restarting and all of the settings are the same as they were.
What is up and how can I get it fixed?

I have noticed the same thing. When you posted something about this, I checked my firmware and it is 1.29.00. I do not know what is up. Now my logs on incoming and outgoing are about 5 hours ahead. Here we go again.

Well a wait of about 2 rings and CS was on the line and the gentleman put my router back to 1.28. With that I lost the weird ringing but I still don't have caller ID. He then went on to change some settings on his end but every time he called back it still did not work. Even with me rebooting my network.
So now I have a ticket # and it is off to a higher tech.

I have had this caller ID for many years and just maybe, since it has been the first device in line since it was a new service to us, it may have had some surges or spikes and has become weak and just decided it was time to give up the ghost.
I will buy a new one and see what happens...

By the way, even with having to purchase a new caller ID unit and the ringing problem with the new firmware.... Vonage ROCKS!

Thanks again, many times over Vonage!! Keep it going...

Just a side note on this, I have had weird outgoing ring tones lately.

My firmware was 1.29.00 on my rt31p2, Vonage rep upgraded it to 1.30.00 and I still have the weird ringing. Don't think it's firmware related.

Well they did push me back to 1.28 but this morning I checked it and they pushed it back to 1.29 and I have lost the weird ringing. So I am thinking that some of the first update failed.
I replaced my caller ID unit but I still don't have caller ID service.
I do have a ticket for this and am waiting for it to be resolved.
Other than that I haven't noticed any change in service.

So you may want to have them set you back to 1.28 and then reboot your network, you may just loose the weird ringing.

Have them on the line right now, I'll have them try that and see what happens.

I at least have a ticket open now for this issue. The rep that I still have on the line just recieved an email on this issue, so I feel better other customers are having the same problem.

Maybe they'll figure this out.

Well I just came back from doing some tower/antenna work and got the forum email and saw that you have the 1.30/3.1.6(LI) so I just checked mine and found that I now am up to the 1.30/3.1.6(LI) too.
Hoping that this will make my caller ID work.

Well I just got a call as I was typing and no caller ID yet...

Bummer, guess I will have to call them again...
