I have been using Vonage for a week or two now. At first everything was fine. Now with calls I make or recieve, I can hear the other party just fine, but my voice is all broken up and they cannot hear me at all.
What the heck is going on? Is there anything I can try to resolve this? I have tried unplugging and plugging back in both the modem and the phone modem. I have the phone modem plugged in between the cable modem and a router.
Suggestions?

You may have a problem with not having enough upstream bandwidth. Go to pcpistsop.com and run the speed test on upstream bandwidth and let us know here what it says. You could go to the Vonage control panel and use the bandwidth saver. Also, set up port forwarding (they have a how to on the main Vonage installation site), etc. Are you surfing the Internet while talking? |

do you have any linkage to the port forwarding article? I can't seem to locate it |

also, pcpistsop.com is a dead link (or at least it was when I checked). I did the tests before signing up and seeing if I had enough speed capability and it did just fine.
And no, not surfing at the same time. I tweaked out my voice settings though to the highest. |

well I have an upload speed of 155 Kb/s
when I try to set up the port forwarding, I can't find the IP address of my VonageModem. The only thing listen on my DHCP Active IP table is my PC. I'm going to try the port forwarding pointed to my router, which IP I can see.
Since the VonageModem is outside of my Router, will I be able to see a IP address for it?
Any further suggestions welcome!

Don't know about IP address. Mine is inside my router and it sees it. My guess is that it would not see, but I am probably wrong.
My upload is about 220 or so and I get pretty good conversation except when others here at the office are using the Internet. Am going to Speakeasy (a Covad reseller, I think) for ADSL next week (instead of cable now capped at 256), for 3 MBps down and 784 up, for about $15 more per month than paying for cable now capped at the lower 256 upload limit. It will interesting to see if this fixes things. I have not been real happy with DSL in the past but that was in its infancy, so I hope it is more reliable now. |
