Hi,

We have been using Vonage for the past month and have no major problems.

All of a sudden we are not able to access the internet when the internet connection passes through the RT31P2. If we bypass the router and plug the internet connection right into the computer we can access the internet no problem.

As a result that we cannot connect to the internet...I believe, neither of our Phone lights on the router are lit up and as a result we have no dial tone.

We have since reset the router by pressing the reset button but this has not seemed to help, may have made things worse?

As we are not able to get on the internet while using the router we are not able to go to the http://192.168.15.1 site to possibly reconfigure our phone?

Our friend who is staying with us also has a RT31P2 router so we thought we would try and hook it up to see if we could access the internet through this second router but had no luck either. I thought that maybe our router just stopped working however the fact that two routers aren't working makes me wonder if it's something else.

I checked the "trouble shooting" in the RT31P2 book and it basically said unplug everything and plug in again which we did to no avail.

Basically I'm sort of lost on this one. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scups

Several things could be going on. Have you power-cycled the cable modem (if you are using cable)? Time Warner only allows a single IP address to be assigned to the home equipment. If you swap out between yours and your friend's you have to cycle the power to get a new address assigned to his.

Regarding the inability to get to the .1 address, do you get link lights on both your PC and the Vonage router?

Of course your PC has to be connected to an internal port and not the WAN port. My apologies if I am stating the obvious.

If you are using DSL, your username and password were erased by reseting the Vonage router. Of course you have to be able to get to the .1 address to add it back in...

Good luck.

CCNADog,

Thanks for your reply.

To answer your questions - we have a wireless modem, not cable therefore I don't think the first section of your response applies.

The lights on both the RT31P2 and the wireless modem are on. On the RT31P2 the only lights that are not lit up are the phone lights. When I unplugged it and plugged it back in (the RT31P2)both the phone lights flash and then go out again.
I believe that there are 3 lights on the RT31P2 labelled ethernet and only the first one is usually lit up.

When you mention that the PC has to be connected to an internal port I assume you mean on the RT31P2? I don't know too much about these things...I believe we have it plugged into the correct port, however I will double check when I return home tonight.

Thanks for your help...

In the end all we had to do was hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Oh well, at least it's working again.
