Post subject: dialtone lost after long idle time
When the phone has not been used for incoming or outgoing calls for several hours, I lose dial tone. This usually happens when I pick up the phone first thing in the morning, when it hasn't been used all night.
I need to reboot the Motorola box, wait about a minute and then get dial tone.
This happens every day. Any ideas on how to fix?

Check to see if you are losing your ISP connection during this
period. If so, your Moto box may not be "resigning-on" when the
connection comes back up.

I don't think this is happening, since my POP email client is polling the server every few minutes all night and its performance seems fine.
I read in an earlier thread somewhere that
Vonage
has some kind of "keep alive" settings. Does anyone know anything about that?

I just got off the phone with tech support for the same issue. I was loosing my dial tone after 24-48 hours. Internet would still work and incoming call would ring the MTA but caller would be forwarded to VM. I have my MTA outside the router and it would loose the dial tone faster inside the router.
They RMA'd my MTA, but it sounded more like a pat answer and not a diagnosis of what was happening. I'll let you know if my new MTA fixes the problem.
