PostPosted: Wed Aug 24, 2005 3:50 pm    Post subject: Multiple Router Network Setup Reply with quote Back to top

My existing network BEFORE Vonage was this:

Internet -> Cable Modem -> Wireless Router -> 4 Computers (LAN)

I had to remove (2) Computers from my existing LAN in order to set up my (2) Vonage Voip routers (RTP-300), one for a business line/fax and one for a personal line. I tried to daisy-chain the routers using only 1 port on my existing router, but gave up after messing with it for a whole day. I now have it set up and working with the following setup:

The ONLY problem I have now is that my 2 computers that sit behind the Vonage router can not see my other 2 computers and therefore are not part of my LAN any more. Both of them have access to the internet. Any help would be appreciated. Hopefully, I have given you enough info - if not, let me know.

disable dhcp on the rtp300s and reboot everything in order. let the first router assign all your addresses. once they're on the same subnet, you should be good to go.

reebok - I tried disabling the DHCP and then powering everything down and back up again, but it assigned my computer an IP from the Internet ISP? All I know is that is wan't an IP from my network (for some reason) and when I did a /release - /renew, the computer came back with an error - unable to contact DHCP server.

I will try the cable crossover suggested by polarisdb next. BTW - I had the whole network working with the two RTP-300's daisy-chained through their eth ports, but I guess the Voip ports need to have the WAN ports connected to operate through?

SUCCESS!! - I kept the DHCP disabled on my RTP-300 Vonage router. Everything else was left alone. I then powered it off, hooked up the Cat 5 cable from my first port on the Wireless MN-700 router to the 2nd ethernet port on the RTP-300 router. I then used a separate Cat 5 cable and hooked it to the 1st ethernet port on the RTP-300 router and the other end to the WAN/Internet port on the RTP-300. Powered it up and let it configure for about a minute and then powered up one of my computers which is connected to the 3rd port on the RTP-300. The computer was assigned a correct LAN address and is now part of the original LAN again!

THANK YOU ;~)

May have to see how the QoS goes, but for now - it seems fine.
