Dear Mr. Glover,

Thank You for contacting customer care. In response to your email, this device can not be used as a router. I do understand how this can be upsetting to you not to get any type of usage out of this router other than a paper weight.

We look forward to having you as a valued customer.

Sincerely,
L.Young
Customer Care Representative

I'm not sure what you mean. I am a customer and they were aware of that fact. I was simply asking them if I could use a friend's adapter/router as a ROUTER. I had my own Vonage adapter/router, but my friend was giving me an old one and I wanted to know whether I could use it as a ROUTER, or whether I should just throw it away. They told me it was worthless and to toss it. Instead it can be used as a backup router if I need it, and I'll keep it.

No there was no sarcasm in my request. I simply asked if my friend gave me their old adapter./router, if it could be used as a router. I must have just gotten a new rep or something. In any event I got my answer thanks again to this board.

-Mike

The highlighting of the word router came from me to point out the ridiculousness of their response. That must have been where you thought the sarcasm came in to play. Their response was serious.

umm...the paperweight comment might be construed as sarcasm..

How about-Dear CS
I was wondering if the Linksys device could be used as a standalone service?
Mike

That may have been a bit better approach, but alls well that ends well...

I don't think you're following my request. I DID ask politely if a friend's old adapter/router could be used as a router. That is all that I asked. The paperweight comment came from the rep, not me. I'm not sure where the misunderstanding is happening.

Here was the email I sent. I doubt very seriously that I got a rep that was being rude, because I gave them no reason to react to in that manner. I believe I got a rep that did not know what they were talking about:

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions as I get set up with Vonage. I do have another question for you regarding this router. My friend is giving me a Vonage /adapter router that she ordered, but never ended up installing. What I am wondering is, can it be used for a router period; unrelated to Vonage. She is giving me the router, but if I cannot use it for anything then I will just throw it away, which would be a shame. I just need to know if it still has any practical use at all, or can be cleared or reset to use as just a regular router.

Thanks again for all of your help,

Michael
