Ok here is my nightmare.
I have multiple building at my house.
My office is where I want to set up Vonage its about 40ft of wire length to my wifes office (seperate building). My office is about 200 ft wire length to the house and about 100 ft wire length to my barn.
Am I going to cook down a router with that much wire or is there a better way?
TIA

You should have no problem. If you are using Cat5 cable you have an maximum range of 100 meters. If you are using cat3 I am not sure what the maximum run can be. I hope this helps. |

Does anyone know if it would be worthwhile to re-wire you house telephone wires from quad to cat3 or cat5? I don't seem to have any problems with connecting my Vonage to my house wiring but I wonder if a change over would provide any benefits. |

If you're not having any problems, I'd leave it alone. |

I concur with Steve that if your phone quality is good, I wouldn't mess with it.
Some reasons to rewire:
1. You need more than 3 lines into your home.
2. You have interference i.e. noise on your line while on the phone.
3. You have bad or badly corroding cat3 or quad wiring.
Aside from these 3 reasons, I see little reason to update the phone wiring. |
