Vonage woes part #2 - 10megabit = 3megabit?

I subscribe to an Otimum Online cable connection in the new york area which gives me 10megabit down and about 1.2 megabit up. When I have the ATM in front of my router the maximum down speed that i experience is at 300k. My upstream speed seems to be not affected. Can someone please confirm that they have had a similar experience? Thanks!

p.s. i can no place the ATM behind my router because it does not work, i have D-link DI-614+. I foward the ports to the proper ip and no go. I dont know why.

How are you measuring your speed and do you really get 10mbps/1mbps or is that just what the cable company told you was possible?

I am measuring my speed using a program called bandwidth monitor for windows. Yes, i know 10 megabits sounds high, but believe me i really do get that much downstream, its quiete amazing being able to download at almost a full megabyte per second.

Resolution:
I believe my MTA was broken. Upon recieving my replacement MTA i have been able to set it up behind my router just fine and all is well.
