Anyone have an idea when International calls will be stable from the US using Vonage?

I have a cell number in eastern Europe that I call that has only connected clearly once out of over 20 tries over a period of 30 days. Sometimes there is no ring at all. Sometimes only an American ring then the call drops. Then when it does connect the person on the other end cannot hear me. Just another concerned International call user.

I call the UK and Australia quite a bit & haven't had an issue yet. Eastern Europe is...well... a bit behind the times in many ways.

I believe pcskies is looking for any help with calling eastern europe. Let's let those who call eastern europe answer this question since knowing that it works with Denmark or the UK is really irrelevant to pcskies. I personally don't call eastern europe so I cannot contribute much except to say that from what I read in previous posts, Vonage takes the path of least cost which sometimes results in poor call quality overseas.

The cell number I attempt is in Albania. I can reach it perfectly using a calling card from a cell phone. I have contacted Vonage tech support 2 times now reporting the troubles I experience. I called them again last night and they said they are still working on the trouble ticket that I started with them 3 weeks ago. I suppose it is just hardware routing upgrades that are needed.

pcskies,

do a quick search on the forum and you'll see a lot of complaints to some specific countries.

The main concern is not as much on Vonage's end but on the connection to the other countries. Apparently there are varying levels of connections that could be purchased with foreign countries and Vonage being a low-cost provider seeks out the cheapest offering which invariably affects the call quality.

I used to experience this all the time when I had POTS and calling a cell phone in Thailand. I used to use Sprint for my long distance calls and Invariably it would take me sometimes 10-20 times to get through because the trouble was not my POTS line but it was Thailand. They had a very limited inbound call limit and so during busy times of the day, it would rarely get through. It still occured often even at non-busy times of the day.

It's a reality with many countries abroad that they have inferior infrastructure yet charge astronomical prices to people in the states.

So I guess my thoughts are that the issues primarily reside with Vonage's choice in the international connection lines and the fact that international lines tend to have inferior infrastructure. In your case, I would think it's Vonage's choice in which connection to use since your cell phone never had any issues calling there.

Sometime in late September International calls to Albania started working perfectly. I have not had one single issue completing a call since then. Calls were loud and clear and sounded better then some US calls made. I applaud Vonage for several months of stable consistent call making.

However, last week the same original issues started arising when calling the same Albanian cell phone number. Again I cannot complete calls. Sometimes an American ring only, sometimes it completes but the recieving party cannot hear me, but I can hear them. I have a call into Vonage tech support. They fixed this once so I'm confident they can do it again.

Anyone else make International calls to the Balkans region of Europe seen a difference in completed calls? Thanks
