I have the logviewer installed on a static IP address of 192.168.15.98 and the router provided with the same information. Still does not capture network activity. Had this working perfectly fine with my old Linksys router.

Current firmware 1.00.43. Didn't work with the 1.00.37 version either.

The computer is running Windows Server 2003.

Any ideas?

Tia

I'm actually working on solving the same problem right now. I never really cared for Linksys's Logviewer, however, I used a Kiwi product (http://www.kiwisyslog.com/info_syslog.htm) which is a highly configurable utility. I AM getting log info from the Vonage Linksys (I'm using the RTP300, but I think the firmware is similar). However, it's not very useful information. I'm still playing with it... but I absolutely cannot get the Linksys Logviewer to display anything coming from the Linksys either!

You might try the Kiwi Syslog utility. It's nice. I'm working now to configure it to get the good stuff out of the RTP, but I don't know what kind of data this new Linksys is sending. I want IP addresses and port numbers, but it seems to be sending everything BUT IP addresses and port numbers.

I'll let you know if I figure something out. The Kiwi Syslog utility is failry easy to configure, and it's really quite nice. It'll email alarms, cut log files daily, etc. I used it on my old Linksys BEFR series router, and it worked great. We'll see...

Take care

Russ

Thanks for responding Russ. At least I know I'm not alone. I am surprised to see that this wasn't posted before. I guess most people don't look at router logs.

Yeah, I'm surprised too. Actually, when I saw your post, I was going to post it myself! But I doubt most people use the log utility in the Linksys routers. Personally, I loved having it, and I'm really missing it right now.

I'm still messing with the Kiwi Syslog app... As far as I can tell, the Linksys Logviewer app, strangely enough, does not work with my RTP300 at all.

Seems that the RTP300 is still a bit rough around the edges. I'm going to continue to work with the Kiwi utility to see if I can make it work...

Thanks,

Russ

Well, I've pretty much given up on the log feature in the RTP300. The only information I'm able to extract indicates changes made to the router's configuration through its web interface. This is not useful information; I want IP traffic info, like my old BEFSR41 gave me!

I'm somewhat embarrassed to say it, but I'm actually hooking my old BEFSR41 back up in the configuration, which will give me a total of 3 routers in my stupid little network, but I don't know what else to do in order to get the good IP traffic data to log like it used to.

If anyone else out there makes sense of the log feature in the RTP300, please let me know!!!

Thanks,

Russ

Hey all,
I noticed the same thing. I got mine this week Ver 1.00.45
When I put the RTP in front of my Wireless linksys, I noticed a few things moved around in the config screens between them.
My guess they had to strip stuff out to make the voice app fit in memory.

Your right, it strictly a management log which reports debug and change management reports to the syslog server.

So our most useful screen for debug, inbound and outbound logs are gone. How do they expect a consumer to troubleshoot issues or track net activity.

However, the wireless router logging was pretty use-less unless you watching it live...it had no data retention of value.

I'v seen a few lackings in these routers......I even had a call into linksys....they offered nothing.

Netgear and D-links allow you to filter services, by IP or MAC address, and by day/time schedule.
The Linksys only blocks the service for the entire local network. I think they did this to promote their granny service.

I told them I'll have to put the netgear back in line so I can get control back.

I am not getting network traffic logs either. Vonage hasn't updated my router yet. I'm at version 1.00.20. I contacted LinkSys and Vonage. Neither of them were of any assistance.

The logging of traffic is a feature that I used extensively to see who was hitting against the router from the outside and what ports they were trying to exploit.

I think I also am puting my old router (WRK54G) back in line. Unfortunately, if I put it in front of my WRTP54G to capture all of the traffic, I lose the ability for QoS on the voice line, don't I?
