OK, I have tried it both ways but I wish a Vonage pro could explane to me why there is a difference.
If you are running a Motorola VT1005V telephone adaptor for your Vonage service then you will get 10 digit Caller ID which I say is the proper delivery just like all US Caller ID from all the Ma Bells. Caller ID in the CLASS feature set of the North American Numbering Plan is 10 digits.
But, if you are running an RT31P2 as your Vonage device then you will get a "1" in front of the standard 10 digits of the North American Numbering Plan. Why is it being delivered both ways? |

Having 10 digits versus 11 digits is more of a convention than a standard. Although most North American companies delivered 10 digits at some time there was at least one Canadian company that was delivering 11 digits. This has been discussed quite a bit previously.
It made a heck of a lot of sense to have 11 digit caller ID back in the bad old days when you used to have to dial all 11 digits. |

The new RTP300 is showing 10 digits as well. My guess is that the Vonage system has the "1" included and the phone adapter is supposed to strip it off, but the RT31P2 didn't. So I guess it's more of a Linksys issue than a Vonage issue.

Update: It looks like my RTP300 is showing a "1" now as well with the new firmware. 1.00.43. Argh. Oh well. |

That is very interesting. I complained and opened tickets with Vonage when I got my Linksys RT31P2 and Vonage said I was crazy and that it was always suposed to be 11 digits. I argued with tech support till I was blue in the face but they could not or would not listen and understand so I gave up. Now you are saying that the new RTP300 is showing 10 digits. Well My question to Vonage is "What is going on that some of your devices show 10 digits and some show 11 digits". I am saying that it should be 10 or at least all of your compatable devices should show the same thing. We can't say it is because of my old device any more because the new devices are also showing 10 digits.
Sup Vonage??? |

all my calls to my London ON main number are 11 digits, but some of my calls to my Columbia SC Virtual Number are 10, and then the next time the same person calls, it'll be 11, then 10.. it's funny..
so the RT31P2 is capable of showing 10, it's Vonage.. |

Have Vonage since Thurs (08/1 Caller Id was 10 digits and one caller id phone strips the area code off so its 7 digits.
Move ahead to Sun (08/21) and now its 11 digits (actually 1+10 digits) - this is not good. All exept one cordless phone - moto MD61 - great phone btw but I digress. anyway most phones dont know what to with the extra 1 - caller id comes up as 1AA-APPP-NNNN - very weird
What is status? |

My RT2P Linksys device also shows 11 digits which totally screwed up my caller-id device.. as it was looking for the area code (570)... but I had to program it in as 157.. ARG! I would get numbers like: 1570xxxxxxx instead of 570xxxxxxx or 11570xxxxxxxx... so annoying. I also opened a ticket and they said.. that's just how it is.. contact the phone maker to see if you can change how it works (HA!). I'm not sure why the devices would be screwing up the CLID... as the CLID is sent from the Voip switch!!!! |

Finally, someone who understands the frustration of 11 digit Caller ID. Area codes in the North American Numbering Plan do not start with "1" !!!
Well, get rid of your RT31P2 and go with the Motorola device or that new one they talk about and you should be OK
Vonage, Why can't your folks take care of this issue? seems like every box you support uses a different format |

I also had the same problem every since I had the RT31P2, when I upgraded to the RT300 the caller ID started displaying properly. This worked for 3 days and then went back to the 11 digit format. After careful examination of the settings in the web interface of the RTP300, I noticed that the firmware had been updated from 1.00.37 to 1.00.45. I called CS and got in touch with the avanced tech support people who flashed my firmware back to 1.00.37 and put a flag on my account not to upgrade firmware. Caller ID has been displaying properly every since. Hope that helps.
