Words of advice: be careful about purchasing Vonage service on an indication from the Vonage website that your current phone number is portable to Vonage service.
Less than a month ago my wife and I were pleasantly surprised to see that the Vonage telephone number transfer lookup tool indicated that our two numbers could be transferred to Vonage. Incredulous, both of checked the Vonage website several times to verify that this was, in fact, the case. Each time it indicated both numbers could be transferred
After much effort, large service fees and the receipt of two (now unopened) Vonage boxes, we were informed three week later that neither number can be transferred.
We have received only form responses to the email informing of this fact. The only help Vonage customer service representatives have done is to offer to cancel our Vonage service. No one at Vonage has never apologized, or even indicated that they recognize that the lookup tool on it website was in error. It is telling that the tool now indicates that neither number can be transferred. Clearly the database the tool reference has been corrected.
We are now looking at broadband voice options through our local cable company. Vonage has been unresponsive and, frankly, not helpful in this matter. Be careful about Vonage! |

My parents are having the same problem...to the point where I think Vonage has been fraudulent. They do not care, do not respond, and frankly are horrible to deal with.
Hope you found success somewhere else. |

No. Our local cable provider does not offer Voip and we have lost the will to deal with another transfer. We both spend a lot of time on conference call numbers. We've notices that our Vonage number in New York is unreliable on many conference bridge services, producing a loud noise that disrupts the call. This appears to be a common problem with Voip service. The next step is just to switch it all back to the traditional providers and pay the extra money. |

Well the only lucky part for my parents was that Vonage never got the local provider to switch the number....and we were keeping the local service running until they did....so all we have to do is cancel Vonage. With a cancelation fee of course.
I did file a claim with the BBB, as I truely believe that Vonage was fraudulent in telling me that it would be no problem switching the number. I am not seeking damages...I just hope that if enough people complain....vonage will put a little more effort into telling the truth.
Nice chatting with you.... |
