I was thinking as I was responding to a post, originally $38 dollars would have seemed acceptable to me for basic phone service. Not anymore since Vonage @ $25 a month per line! It would be interesting to see what everyone is saving per month. Here it would be at least $13 x 2 = $26 dollars!

UPDATE-$62.15 per month is what Bellsouth would charge me for comparable service, FOR ONE LINE! I have 2 lines at $54 per month...Amazing.

If all goes well with Vonage I would be saving $25 a month on my phone bill.

Tough for me to answer this question.
  1. Been with Vonage for over a year, can't remember what I used to pay.
  2. Half of what I paid went for taxes, fees and regulations
  3. It's not apples to apples because my basic phone service didn't include caller id, call waiting and caller id call waiting so those were add ons.
  4. I am using Vonage features that I wouldn't pay the phone company for or they didn't offer (forwarding, simulring, transfer, Click-2-Call, voicemail).
  5. Vonage includes my long distance costs so do I get to add those to my basic service charges?
  6. I have travelled with my adapter saving costs for placing calls from hotels. What is that worth?

My Verizon, with most of the features of Vonage, sans voice mail and with no long distance included, cost me $69/month. Little wonder I switched. Tired of getting raped by the telco.

I have 2 Verizon lines at $69/each that I am converting...

So $69 x 2 = $138 Verizon
$25 x 2 = $50 Vonage
=====================
$88 savings per month

No brainer for me!

Better question would be how much did you pay for equivalent services for your POTS line. I really don't know how much Verizon would charge for a basic POTS line (no caller-id, no vm, no call waiting, etc.).

Anyway, I'm saving about $40 per month, not counting taxes, and I get more features.

MCI Neighborhood Unlimited was my POTS
Price $49.99/mth + surcharge + taxes + this + that =$65-$85/mth

I went with MCI, and did save money on regional calls that is what I was using most often but when I stumbled on to Vonage.... mainly the Ads just keep driving at me..... till it finally sank in... Shazzam I am here and I love it $27.24 flat fee tax included.

$65x12=$780>>>> $27.24x12=$326.88>>> ($453.12 savings) / yr and thats low end figure.... Oh I did the math, lol... Im interested in WiMax but still alittle worried about hot spots because I live in hilly country ...in due time I'm sure..... Great topic!!!!!!!

Not saving money with Vonage because I cannot drop POTS until Vonage through some miracle decides to offer me a local area code. The one they promised me was "right around the corner" last January. The $20 a month I'm saving on long distance calls though about offsets the cost of Vonage. Well it was until wife insisted we purchase a cell phone Confused

I haven't had a POTS line in a while, but last I remember it was in the mid $20's for a line with an unpublished, unlisted number.

Vonage is $15 a month for 500 mins (I'll probably use a whole 30 mins per month lol) so I saved $10 a month with Vonage.

Plus, Voip is much cooler than a old school land line =)
