I have the Linksys RT31P2 Broadband Router provided by Vonage (thank you very much). Works fine, no issues with it.
On top of that I'm using a Belkin Wireless G router F5D7320-4 for the lappy and PC in the living room. DHCP is enabled on both routers, 'cause I can't seem to figure out how to get the linksys to do DHCP for both.

I would rather have just one wireless broadband phone device to run the bunch, but I have not seen any other options other than the Linksys WRT54GP2 or WRTP54G.

Questions:

Is it worth my time in the first place to replace these two with one device if I'm not having any (real) problems?

If yes,
is there a recommended device prefered by Vonage users?

If no,
Any suggestions on a simpler setup (i.e. one dhcp service) shown on twenty seven eight-by-ten colour glossy photographs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one explaining what each one is?

Thanks to all in advance

From my experience the WRTP54G is working just fine with me.
I know all the horror stories with this router might sway you away from it.

Just upgrade the firmware to latest version (1.00.37).

If you have no problems with your current setup just stick with it.

Thanks lockedon70

Actually I went and tried CH3MI5TR4NG3R's dual router configuration. So far so good.

A little late to this thread but hopefully this will help someone in the future. In my opinion it is not worth the effort.

Currently I use a different Voip provider (soon switching to Vonage) but it doesn't change the setup you mention where you have one linksys giving DHCP, etc and a wireless AP (really that is all it is doing at this point).

Internet
|
|
Linksys RT41P2 [Firewall]
- most of the normal settings here, does DHCP, firewalling, etc
|
|
Linksys WRT54GS [Wireless AP]
- disable DHCP Server
- turn Operating Mode to Router instead of Gateway
- it will look a little odd on your routers status tab because everything will essentially be blank since it is not hosting your internet connection or DHCP functionality...see link below.

Only problem with that is - the RT41P2 (RT31P2 for Vonage) doesn't have a true firewall in it. The datasheet says "Built-in NAT technology helps keep intruders out of your computers." NAT on its own is not a true firewall and isn't nearly as secure as having a true SPI firewall, as the WRT54GS does. So by using them the way you are, you have sacrificed the protection that the WRT's firewall can give you. In contrast, I have my RT31P2 behind the WRT, with the WRT hooked directly to the internet connection, and full firewall functionality enabled. By setting the QoS to "Highest" for the RT as the latest version of HyperWRT allows (I note you're running HyperWRT on the WRT router) the Voip works perfectly behind the more robust WRT54GS router. (And the two, along with the matching Linksys cable modem, make a very nice looking stack, as you can see from my avatar pic to the left.) Smile

Being an I.T. person I should know better but I've grown lazy with the every-other-month call I have with AT&T I get tired of unplugging and plugging it directly into the internet because their CSR is too ...ummm... uninformed to figured out that isn't the problem....another reason I'm switching Vonage (atleast based on reviews). Plus I was trying so many different firmware upgrades/enhancements on the wireless I didn't want to keep dropping the other members of my household off their phone calls.

Actually my cable modem is from TimeWarner (non linksys) but I have a 16 port switch since I work from home so I have 3 computers from my employer plus all my own gadgets (okay I admit it, I really didn't need all 16 ports but man...it looks sooo awesome) so I've got the stack o' three also.
