Can somebody please help me understand the reasons why I may be unable to port my telephone number to Vonage? I live in Massachusetts, and Verizon is the local telephone company who owns and runs the lines and telephone infrastructure in my town. My personal telephone service is currently provided by my cable company, Comcast, in this case, I believe, a CLEC. Please feel free to correct me if I am not using these terms properly.
Now, if I inquire as to the portability of a telephone number currently serviced by Verizon, my neighbor's number, for example (508-533-XXXX), Vonage tells me this number should be portable. If I type in my number, serviced by Comcast (508-321-XXXX), Vonage tells me this number cannot currently be ported. I think all 508-321-XXXX numbers are serviced by Comcast. I called Comcast, to ensure that there are no restrictions on their side, and I was told that if they receive a request to release the number, they will comply.
Sorry for the wordy question, but I can't get a solid answer with any technical specifics from Vonage customer service representatives. I have tried asking both over the phone and through email.
Thank you to anybody who can shed some light on this dilemma for me! |

I tried both numbers 533 & 321 http://www.vonage.com/avail.php both say "Presently, we are unable to transfer this number to our service." It also says available area codes.. This is strange and I am working on a similar issue with my mothers #
