Two weeks ago when I signed up for service, the LNP availability tool distinctly told Vonage could transfer my existing Verizon number.
I filled out the eLOA back then and have been waiting, but when I happen to check the availability tool, it is now telling they CAN'T port my number over which is confusing........
First of all, they offer numbers in the same area that I'm bringing the number in from.
I'm in Mass and the number is for Yarmouth/Hyannis.. The only Cape Cod town listed now in their list is Provincetown. If they can provide LNP to Provincetown, why not the rest of Cape Cod!? (Mass. folks will no doubt see the humor in that).
My understanding of LNP was as long as they had access to the LATA, porting could be achieved in all of the towns in the LATA... |

Interestingly enough, I just called Verizon and asked them if they had received an LNP request for my Yarmouth, MA number and they said the cut-over date was 8/23.....
So the Vonage website changes and says they can't port in my town, yet I'm scheduled to go through w/ a port next week?
This should be interesting........... |

I have just had an identical experience: initiated Vonage service on two SBC numbers that the lookup tools said (on several separate occasions) were portable only to be told three weeks later that the numbers could not be ported.
Now have many dollars of service charges on my credit card, virtual phone numbers I don't want and two unopened Vonage boxes sitting near my front door. The only thing I get from Vonage is form responses.
For shame Vonage! |

Interesting follow-up to my Yarmouth/Hyannis, MA number port.
As I posted before, the Availibility tool is now telling me that 508-771 "can't be transferred" (even though it said it could when I started the LNP process).
Yet, the LNP transfer was scheduled for 8/22 (Carrier approved) and I was worried I would have lots of problems.
Yesterday morning, I woke up and found that I couldn't call the number from my cell and that it gave a fast busy because Verizon had dumped the line as scheduled.. But people not being able to call in is scary since it would confuse the heck out of them.
This morning though, all was working fine and calls go through w/o a hitch.
So... Vonage first says that they CAN transfer a number only to then change the tool and say they CAN'T transfer a number (as so many of us have had to deal with). Yet, the number port goes through fine w/o any big problems? (a 1 day interruption is minor compared to what stories I've heard others have had)
Basically, the Vonage availibility database is crap......
As I posted before, as long as the carrier has access to the LATA, they should be able to transfer from every rate center in the LATA.
My current theory is that the availibility database is only made up of NPA-NXX's (area codes/exchanges) that they have successfully transferred from and that they only find out when they try to push through a port?
Anyone else have thoughts on this? |

It's a pretty dynamic thing though...I would imagine it would always depend on how many people in the area sign up, how many numbers Vonage can get in that area, and if the moon is lined up correctly with the North Star...
But come on, are you saying you would not want a P-town number? |

Mobster75's statement about LATA access and the transferability of all rate centers in the LATA is critical. I've gone back to SBC on the basis of this. Will advise on outcome. |

Oh, BTW, I found out that here in Eastern Massachusetts, Vonage's CLEC partner is BroadWing. |
