PostPosted: Thu Aug 18, 2005 11:21 am    Post subject: RTP300 "Phone 1" light always blinking? Reply with quote Back to top

One thing that I noticed over the last couple of days is that the "Phone 1" light on my RTP300 blinks about every 3 seconds when the phone is not in use. I may not remember correctly, but is it supposed to do that? I thought that the light was solid when not in use, but blinked rapidly when I was using the phone.

Don't know if it is related, but it also has started to take about 3 seconds to get a dial tone when I pick up the phone. I've been experiencing some echo problems the last couple of days, so I don't know if that is related...

I've tried rebooting the RTP300, using different phones and phone cords, as well as using the RTP300 with different ISP's. Nothing I can thing of trying seems to help.

apparently the rtp300 and wrtp54g use a slow blink on the phone light when you have voicemail waiting. are you sure the 3 second dialtone pause isn't stutter tone?

Thanks, you were 100% on the money! I wish there was an RTP300 manual available...

I got a voicemail a couple of days ago and I listened to the emailed wav file, but never did anything with the message at vonage.com. I deleted it at vonage.com, and immediately my phone 1 light stopped blinking and I get dial tone as soon as I pick up the phone.

This is a perfect example of why this forum was one of the main reasons that I chose Vonage over AT&T CallVantage. Smile

Which phones are you using? I've heard of some people having echo problems with some of the digital Panasonic cordless phones, but I think these problems probably would occur with a land line and these phones as well due to the delays they have in encoding and decoding the audio from analog to digital and back again.

I've tried a few phones (all connected directly to the RTP300):

  • KXTC1890B (dual line 900mhz cordless)
  • KXTC1891B (dual line 900mhz cordless)
  • Lucent 9130 (single line 900mhz cordless)
  • AT&T 210 (single line corded)

Assuming you mean the echo problem, It seemed to improve somewhat when I changed the bandwidth saver back to 90 Kbps from 50 Kbps (was trying to get fax to work). Once I did that, I could no longer hear the echo when calling my to/from my home POTS lines, but I spoke to someone who called from a PBX today and they said they could still hear an "obnoxious" echo.

I get echos with some PBXs on my Cingular cell phone, and it's only some PBXs. Haven't had any echo with the RTP300 yet.

This caller is my main contact at my largest client, so I'm hoping to come up with a resolution.

I could also try sticking a DSL filter on there for the heck of it...

Check your voice mail , when the light blinks slowly on wrtp54g.
This indicates an voice mail pending (new) on that line.
Getting voice mail should remove the blinking.
