I have an issue of loosing my IP address on my PC when I hibernate my pc each night.I leave the modem and phone adapter on so I can receive and make calls if need be. When I turn it back on I get a message of loss of internet connection due to loss of IP address. I try to use the auto fix offered by windows but it does not work. I end up having to power cycle all 3 components. This did not happen the 1st week or so of having Vonage service, now it happens everyday. I tried changing the RTP300 lease expiration to a higher than 1 day thinking that may be it but it didn't help. Since this worked flawlessly the first week I know there must be a way to have this setup so I can hibernate my PC each night and not have to manually power cycle everything every morning, it is ridiculous. Here is my setup:

1.Gardner, MA (30 miles west of Boston)
2. Comcast Broadband Cable Internet
3. Motorola 585120 Surfboard Modem
4. Linksys RTP300 Phone adapter (Vonage provided)
5. Dell PC with NetGear GA311 card.

Anyone know how to fix this so I can hibernate my PC without having to power cycle all of it every time I turn it back on to get my IP address back? I understand that it's probably due to the fact Comcast is only issuing me 1 address to be used on all on my components and by hibernating it looses it then when it tries to assign a new one it is not allowed BUT why did it work flawlessly for so many days of doing the same thing and now it doesn't???

Which version of Windows are you running? I've seen this with older versions of Windows and it's usually caused by bad (poorly written) network card drivers. There are many pieces of hardware out there which don't properly support hibernation or standby. Best bet would be to complain to Netgear.

Thanks for the response.

I am running WIndows XP.

I'll look into the NetGear and drivers. I am still just baffled by the fact that it worked and now it doesn't

I hate the thought of having to manually power cycle each time I hibernate. We have been hibernating or shutting down our PC for years, leaving the Cable modem alone and have never had this happen. There has to be a way

Reduce the DHCP time to something smaller. Try 15 mintues and see if that works... If you lose connectivity while you're active and not in standby, incrase that time to 30 minutes or something larger.
