Was told by Vonag Tech Support to purchase A Wireless Modem Jack....which I did. Its a Belkin. My internet connection (Cable) is upstairs my Tivo downstairs.......
The modem did not work and I think it is just to far from the base. Not that it would work anyway based on what i read in the forum. Short of running a 50 foot phone cord down my stairs and through the middle of my living room is there anything I can do to get it to work....The 3 days I have had vonage I love it and would hate to go back to SBC.
I have read a lot of suggestions and frankly a lot of them I dont understand the terminology of what people are saying to buy to get this thing to work! Can anyone help me before I send this back!!!!!! Thanks so much for all your help. |

I would consider not even messing around with all the codes etc for your Tivo and just going the null serial cable route. If you have a laptop you'll save yourself a lot of headaches doing your updates this way inestead. |

Which Tivo do you have? If you have a regualar Tivo I would just get USB network adapter and go that route. If you need to dial out with a modem, I got it to work on my DirecTV Tivo by changing the dial prefix code to #034 and the call waiting prefix to *99 and disabling dial tone detection. The Wireless Modem adapters that plug into the wall create to much interference for a solid data connection. |

I have a R10 and a DVR40 (DirecTv Tivos). I tried a bunch of different codes with no luck. The USB ports aren't active on DirecTv Tivos. |

Unfortunately, I am not sitting in front of my Tivo right now but I have not had a problem now using it with Vonage for over a month. I slowed down the modem on the DirecTV Tivo and disabled call waiting. I have heard that some people have used a DSL filter backwards to help get the device to dial out as well. |

Once you get access to your Tivo, i would appreciate it if you could post your settings. I'll give it a try again. I participated in another thread and stated that I was able to get mine to connect and download updates (both Tivos), but then I had 16 failed attempts within 12 hours so i disconnected the phone jacks. I am on the 500 minute plan so I don't want to burn up all my minutes with Tivo failed attempts. Thank you. |

Rinkman,
You can connect your Vonage equipment to your home's existing telephone wiring and connect your TiVo using that mechanism.
If you are keeping your POTS line you can probably connect Vonage on line 2 and use a splitter at the jack near your TiVo to pull it out.
Please see How to Distribute VoIP Throughout a Home for detailed instructions.
You may have to adjust the settings on your TiVo in order to get it to connect successfully. Once you have a dialtone near your TiVo, through a wireless phone jack or other means, review the other TiVo posts in this forum for solutions.
Test your jack (wireless or otherwise) with a regular phone to ensure it works before you attempt to configure your TiVo,
EDIT: Oh, and way too many exclamation points in that subject. |
