So far (only a few sends and receives) I've had pretty good success using the HP 5510 all-in-one on Vonage (regular line, not separate fax line). Once, I needed to turn ECM off to send a fax--otherwise, efforts have gone through with ECM on and without any tweaking. In case I (eventually) need to adjust the baud rate, however, does anyone know what the 9600 "code" is for the 5510? The "starting" code is "26," which presumably equates to 33600 baud. One poster, for the 6110, suggests the 9600 code for that machine is "2." Another poster, for an HP D135, suggests that the "starting" code is "26" and the 9600 code is "6". Since otherwise both machines access the baud rate the same way as does the 5510 (press * and # at the same time; press 1, 2, 3; go to system configeration; go to r/w parameter; press 1, 5, 3, then enter--at which point the default "26" shows), I'm assuming the 9600 baud code is the same as one of the other machines--but one suggests "2" and the other suggests "6". Any ideas as to which one is correct for the 5510? Thanks! |

Transmission speed is adjusted by the resolution. Standard Fine Very Fine Photo Photo is the slowest and I think Very fine is 9600bps |

I'm not sure if the setting changes will be right for your fax machine, but mine is finally working based on that post you referenced. I did exactly what the poster said and success over and over again. Here it is:
"vonage suggests a baud rate of 9600 and ECM turned off for faxing. this worked for me so here's how you change the baud rate on an HP 6110 all in one.
First turn ECM off in the regular menu system.
Next you need to access the service menu doing the following
Press * and # at the same time Pres 1,2,3 after another go to system configuration go to R\W parameters press enter press 153 and press enter press 2 and press enter Press cancel until you are out of the service menu
this should help you to successfully send faxes. i was having problems when sending to certain numbers. after doing the above, i sent the fax to one of the trouble numbers and it worked beautifully.
hope this helps you with faxing." |

I was really getting desperate with trying to fax. I purchased an HP 5510 pretty much for faxing job applications around the country. It probably worked 2-3 times out of 10 times. I was so bummed. I undertook the procedure above and sent a bunch of faxes today in various modes (fine and standard) and had not one problem.
I've been searching for information about these "codes". As far as I can tell, the manual makes no mention of them and the HP website doesn't seem to have any info either. Or does it?
Where can I find out more about these codes and how to use them?
Thanks,

While searching around to see if these codes work for the HP 950, I came across this posting on the HP forums which has info regarding what the codes actually mean:
HP Baud codes
For those that don't want to click through, here is a snippet:
To set the baud rate do this :
Press * and # at the same time Press 1, 2, 3 after another go to system configuration go to R\W parameters Press enter press 153 and press enter press 2 and press enter Press cancel until you are out of the service menu.
Parameter 153 is only for sending, and these are the diferent settings :
0 = V.17 14400 1 = V.17 12000 2 = V.17 9600 3 = V.17 7200 4 = V .33 14400 5 = V .33 12000 6 = V.29 9600 7 = V.29 7200 8 = V.29 4800 9 = V.27 4800 10 = V.27 2400 26 = V.34 33600
You can use the same values for receiving as for sending, which is parameter 159 |

Have the 5510. Here is what I did. Made all the changes in the programming mode posted above. Still no luck. Called Vonage. The tech put me on hold for about 5 minutes. Came back and asked me to try to send a fax while I was on the phone with him. Went through on the 1st try with no problems. The tech said that he made some changes on his end and sent some changes to my router. Been working great since. Advice: call Vonage and ask them to do the same. |

vman69 is right, call Vonage and tell them the issues your having with your fax machine. I was having trouble for the last couple days and tried everything that was in the forums. Finally called Vonage and got it escalated 3 times. They were really helpful and even faxed me test pages. But they made changes on their end and everything is running smooth now. Great job Vonage! |

I was running into the same issue. Without directly changing my baud I was able to get it to work by turning off ECS and changing from v.34 to v.17. Both of those are done from setup->#4 (advanced fax setup). I've sent other faxes without problems and received a few but had the same problem with one number, so I'm guessing it has more to do with the capabilities of the fax machine on the other end. |

I called Vonage and was on the phone 1/2 hour with no luck. They tried sending me a fax with no luck. Then they asked me to send a fax but he said he wasn't able to receive it and I had to try sending to someone else. How is that for service? They put me on hold for half hour on my cell and wiped out my minutes. Then they put me on hold for the "advanced department". I finally got tired of waiting. I am not a happy camper with Vonage. If they can';t provide better service than that they can have their Voip service.
