My setup is like this: Cable Modem-Router-Motorola DTA-Vtech 20-2481 2-line cordless phone
I have one line from the telco and the Vonage line and the 2-line 2.4GHz phone. If a connect to the Vtech phone either of the two lines, then the Caller ID functionality is fine. If I connect BOTH of them, then the telco Caller ID is fine but the Vonage one does not give any Caller ID information. Otherwise they both work.
I've heard about Vtech phones having problems with Vonage but this is really weird. Something is interfering between the telco and the Vonage line. I have called both Vtech and Vonage support without any results so far. |

After several attempts to troubleshoot this problem with Vonage, their Customer Service Rep concluded: "we officially don't support 2-line phones"
So I should throw away my phone, right? I thought a primary reason to use Vonage is as a 2nd line (since it is not a reliable primary line for emergencies). So Vonage is actually suggesting we should have 2 different phones to carry around the house.... |

I been using a 4-line Vtech wireless system for much of the last year and it has worked great on all 4 lines, one of which is a Vonage line.
Double check the wiring on the land line and make sure it isn't wired in reverse. You can find cheap testers at Radio Shack. |

I did troubleshooting of this problem from the Vtech side. They did admit that it was a known problem, that they were researching.
The final answer seems to be that Vonage doesn't support call waiting caller ID, and that if your other POTS line does support it, the two systems are incompatable. Hmmmmmm.
I called the Vonage people then, and they said they are working on adding call waiting caller ID but had no firm date on that. |

Hmmm... My Vonage service has had call waiting caller id all along. I have a single line Vtech cordless with two handsets. If i'm on the phone and get a beep, the name/number pops right up. |

Yes, please read all the post above yours. This issue involves Vtech 2 line phones, where the caller ID options on each line are different, since once is Vonage and the other is POTS.
As mentioned in the first post, if either of the lines is plugged in by themselves, then the phone works fine. It is when both lines are plugged in that you get the problem. Obviously then, you would not experience this problem on a 1 line Vtech phone. |

HAHA, maybe "I" should read all the post above mine before replying. Sorry about that.
That is very interesting, so I am not sure then what the difference is. But, I will call back tomorrow to find out. |

Hi, I was searching google for my vtech/vonage problem and found this series of posts. I have the exact same problem as originally described.
Anyone make any progress on this issue per chance?
I got zip from Vtech. So now I sit here with a $200 (4 handsets) Vtech 2 line phone system that is of greatly diminished value.
Thanks TerryK. |
