Ok, received a message last night. Listened to it, deleted it, and went along my merry way. Came back later to see that my phone (Panasonic KP 5566) still shows that there is a voicemail even when there is not. I heard some folks have had this issue before. Is there anyway to clear things out and reset the vm box? I went online, disabled the vm box, saved the setting, went back later to re-enable it, and the phone still shows a message waiting. I also reset my box (Linksys WRTP54G), but still the same results.

Suggestions?

Are you getting the stutter dial tone as well? The stutter tone indicates that the router thinks you have voice mail waiting, which is different than just the phone showing it. If it's the latter, just pick up the phone, let it hear the dial tone for about 10 seconds and hang up, and the phone should reset the indicator in about 10-15 seconds.

dlai,

i've had the exact problem that eventually led to a bigger problem, no voice mail.

I tried resetting the router 2-3 times. It didn't clear it up.

so I tried disabling vmail on the website. Then when I tried to enable it, it wouldn't. it took a full week before it was fixed. The unfortunate thing was that tier 3 engineering solved the problem on 8/12 but no one emailed me the solution. So when I called on 8/16, the CS agent told me the solution and I was dumbfounded considering that they were sitting on the solution for 4 days and probably would have stayed there forever if I didn't call them.

By the way, disabling vmail didn't stop my phone from having the stutter tone and the vmail indicator.

It went away after about 2-3 days.

I think it's a bug they have on the vmail server personally because my router is obviously unable to get updated information from the server.

I have learned my lesson. It's better to live with a vmail indicator on than no voicemail for a week. Plus I get voicemails sent to my email address so I know if new voicemails are sent. You might consider doing that.

I've had some of these issues before. Try calling back into your voicemail box and be sure to use the "*" key to exit your voicemail. Also, try router/pap2 reboots as that will often clear up the issue.

I had the same problem when I went to Vonage last January. I was using an older Radio Shack phone. I bought a pair of Uniden phones, the cheapest Wally had to offer. Everything works great since then. It is spooky to delete voicemail with the computer, then look at the light on the phone extinguish! It also goes out if I delete a message with the phone. It all makes me believe that some phones work and some don't.

Well, I did the "*" thing as suggested and it worked. Thanks for the tip. Still, I never had to do that before, so I'll keep an eye on it. I forgot to mention that I had rebooted my cable modem before as well, but that did not work.
