Okay ,
Comcast gave me a second dynamic IP address and I bought a netgear 5 port network switch , connected the switch to the cable modem then put a Netgear RP614 router on one of the switch ports set it to default (DHCP enabled) then connected the ATA to the RP 614 router , all good , the ATA grabs an IP address and the phone works .
Then i put my Linksys BEFW11S4 router into one of the other switch ports and connected the rest of my network using static IP's and port forwarding but had all kinds of trouble with the linksys actually working to the parameters I was setting , well the problem turned out that because I was testing everything using a laptop through the RP 614 BUT the RP 614 DOES NOT SUPPORT LOOPBACK ! I was up until 3 am trying different configs trying to get it working until I discoverd that the RP 614 does not allow loop back . So to test that my server was online I had to go on the web and find a proxy server to go through which worked fine .
Now I have a new problem , the ATA is working and accepting calls and allowing outgoing calls but sometimes it will drop my outgoing voice and the other people cannot hear me , I can hear them fine but they cannot hear me . This will happen right in the middle of the conversation . Any ideas ? I am sure it is in the router or the switch but not sure what to do about it ?

I don't see what the big stink is. The device is free and why mess around with the settings. On a side note, the website specifically states you will need DHCP running on your network. Shocked

can i plug the ATA 186 on to a Cisco catalyst 24 port? and can i use windows2000 server as the DHCP server ?

when i plug the ATA to the switch, no lights turn on...bad ATA? cable is good, no other device was plug into the switch that means 23 free ports, tried to simulate if it was the ATA... Smile

Hi

There should be no problems with using the setup you've described.
I've used my ATA on Cat 2900s and 3500s before with no problems.
One thing you will have to do is ensure that the ports are set to autonegotiate. The usual practice with cisco stuff is to force it to 100mbps Full Duplex - which the ATA will not link at. It needs 10mbps half.
Windows 2000 should be fine as the DHCP server - once you get your link working i'd imagine it'll start working.

Hrm
Sounds like it Sad
As you've tried it with 2 different hubs/switches and I presume with different cables, then theres not much else I can suggest trying. The only other possiblity is that the ATA isnt getting power - worth checking the PSU etc. If the PSU is fine, looks like you might need a replacement ATA.
