Hi All,
I have been struggling to get QoS working properly with my VoIP setup. Finally I have accomplished this! I am using this currently over a 256k/64k (in dubai) with the QoS settings as follows
I am using a WRT54G with Freeman\Basic 1.0.4 firmware available at http://wrt54g.thermoman.de/
To this i have hooked up my RP31P2 Router. Attached is the screenshot of my QoS settings which is not very well documented anywhere else.
Just a note about the QoS numbers.
DLink=256 * .8 = 206kbps
ULink=64 * .8 = 51kbps
Bittorrent is set to BULK
sip is set to Premium (not sure it this makes a difference)
Since i have so little upstream bandwidth to begin with i guess this is okay
I have the MAC address of the WAN interface of my RT31P2. (enable remote management before doing this, or you'll have to hook into the RT31P2 to administer it)
Also other boxes in my network are set to standard. I am using /32 subnet because /24 would also include the RT31P2 which would make all the above rules useless (trust me!)
Works like a dream!
Hope this helps!!
p.s: most of this should apply on most sveasoft based firmware. it uses wondershaper under the covers which is money!! The factory WRT54G firmware i couldn't get working effectively! |

I didn't realize that someone actually had the stones to post the p2p Talisman release as a new product. Priceless.
I am disappointed (but not surprised) by the Sveasoft response though... |

dd-wrt is an equally good firmware. Uses a lot of similar modules
Freeman\Basic does a good job with the QoS though, am impressed.
sveasoft..disappointing.. |

One thing I didn't like about freeman is that it seemed that *every* change caused the router to reboot. It was aggravating.
dd-wrt does great with the QoS and not all changes require reboots, (some still do).
I had my QoS tied to the MAC address of my ATA. That way I wouldn't have to worry about different types of traffic and ports and if the ATA got a new IP via dhcp, (I have it set to a static IP, but after the last firmware push from Vonage I got, it reset the ATA to dhcp) I would still be covered.
Thanks! |

Even though I have a Sveasoft subscription, I'm not impressed with Talisman (yet). Still running Alchemy on all of my WRT54GS routers. |
