This is the contents of a support issue I sent Vonage now 4 days ago, with no response. Hopefully I'll get better response here.

I sent them items 1-5; item 6 is new:

===============================================

I've been quite disappointed with my service. Several problems, I'll list them here:

1) During 2 different calls about a week and a half ago, I suddenly heard a busy signal, and the call disconnected.

2) I've been unable to complete some calls: at times busy signal (they later told me they were NOT on the phone), at times busy circuit.

3) Several times, to the same person in West Palm Beach, she answers the phone and I still hear ringing. She's said, "Hello.... hello... can you hear me.... are you there?", and all I hear is the last part, immediately after the ringing stops.

4) Same person reported this Tuesday night that she twice tried to call me and got a busy signal. I was not on the phone -- in fact, I had last used it to leave her a message to call me. My callers should NEVER get a busy signal... if my phone is in use it should go to call waiting. If that fails, it should go to voice mail. If that should fail, my network availability number should go to my cell phone, and if that should be in use, IT has voice mail.

5) Today, same person called me. I heard one ring (in fact, the caller ID showed up, but the call wasn't even long enough for the phone to activate the "talking caller ID", because she appeared to have hung up. She told me that she heard my voice mail or answering machine, she wasn't sure. I now got her message in voice mail. This was less than 2 rings for me, which is at most 10 seconds. My settings have voice mail after 30 seconds. I don't want voice mail all the time because I have a fax machine, so I'd rather the calls go to my home so that my fax machine can grab them if applicable.

6) Similar to #1, except no busy signal. I was talking on the phone and suddenly it went dead.

What the brand/model of your modem? How is it connected to the Vonage box? Which Vonage box do you have?

Also, go to www.testyourvoip.com, do a test to Boston, and post your detailed results here.

Sounds like a connection problem with you isp. With Vonage to work there has to be a constant steady stream of data bewtween:

Your Phone Adapter <--> Vonage Server

If your ISP is having any sort of packet loss, or latency, and the messages are just delayed by a second the phone adapter will freak out and do like its been doing above.

Who is your ISP? What is the make and model of your cable modem? Do you have another router you use behind it?

OK, here's the additional info I had sent Vonage support:
Phone Adapter:
Linksys PAP2

ISP:
Comcast

Router Make and Model:
Belkin Wireless G

Telephone Make and Model:
Panasonic 5571

Description of Network:
Cable modem to router, PC and Vonage plugged into router, PC was not even powered on.

In addition to that, (not asked by them, but asked here), the modem is Motorola SB5121 cable modem.

To my knowledge I am not having issues with comcast, although I guess dropped or delayed packets are a fact of life in communication.

The speed is pretty good. Using mostly Vonage's test, I get anywhere from 6-13+ Mbs down, 360-380Kbs up. Just now I ran it, it shows max pause 20ms. I'll admit, most of the time I run the test I only pay attention to the download speed, so I can't tell if it has large pauses reported. Although I would think that if the adapter had issues with that, that there should be some sort of monitoring and reporting of same.

Also, none of that explains a busy signal when someone calls me (as I indicated in my item 4).

Tnx,
