I am have a problem only being able to recieve incoming calls intermittently. I just signed up for service this week and my LNP number is still in progress. It seems to be happening with the temporary "virtual" number I've been assigned. I have disabled voicemail and Network unavailability number so I can get a better handle on when calls ring through and when they don't. I opened a ticket last Thursday, but havent' heard back from CS. I made 31 calls each day over the past 3 days with these results: roughly 50% rang through and the other50% gave me one of two messages saying that the number was "not in service" (Bellsouth message) or "temporarily unavailable" (Vonage message). With my limited knowledge of how the PSTN and Vonage networks are set up, I suspected that maybe the number they assigned me was not yet "cleared" from the registries in the PSTN network and half the time, I would get a bad database entry telling me one of the error messages above.

So, today I called them again (waiting 45 mintues for a CS agent to answer is not helping me chose Vonage over Bellsouth). The result was that the agent assigned me a new virtual number to see if that would bypass any issues with the old virtual number in the PSTN database(s). Unfortunately, I get exactly the same results. So, now I am completely stumped and am looking for some suggestions of you knowledgable folks out there...

Could it be my router blocking the calls? If so, why would I get a Bellsouth network error and not just a Vonage network error. (BTW, out of the 31 calls, only 2 of them would be the Vonage error. That was consistent over all three days.) Are there any other troubleshooting ideas you know of?

I'm located north of Atlanta, GA. Using a Linksys BEFW11S4 v.2 router and Linkys PAP2 device over Adelphia cable modem (Scientific Atlanta WebStar DPC2100) service at 6MB download, 768k upload.

Thanks for any help you can offer. If I don't get it resolved by the end of the week, I will probably just cancel the service. It's very disappointing because I was the "beta" tester for my dad, my inlaws and my sister-in-law. I really want this to work but I can't recommend this to them if I (technogeek) can't get it to work.

UPDATE: So, I called into cust service again last night and tried to get them to help me out again in troubleshooting. All in all I really got nothing done except to let them know how disappointed I was that they promised to call me back with a status update within 24 hours and here is was 3 days later with no call/email/contact.

I get home today and ... magic.... it's working. I have no idea why. No one called me to troubleshoot and I've changed nothing. Kinda scary because who knows if it will come back? But at least it is working for now... (knock on wood)

Fishboy, it is wierd. I posted a message with this problem a few days ago. The problem was happening at my brother-in-law's house.

This evening, I was going to take my RP31P2 over to his house and see if my router (which doesn't have this problem at my house) showed the same problem. Just before I left, I called him and he said that his service has worked fine all day. Go figure.
