Unfortunately I don't have a clue why yours isn't working at this point. I have mine configured exactly like I've outlined and I can get to my web server from outside. The only difference I see is you have the latest firmware and I don't. I will be calling Vonage to get my firmware updated to remove ping responses sometime this week. I'll let you know if I start encountering problems.

Actually one quick question. When you are trying to get to your webserver with the outside IP are you behind your router or are you trying it from a different internet connection. You can't hit your outside ip from inside the router with NAT turned on (at least on the routers I've had at home). You will have to try from a different outside ip, which if you can't pm me and I can try from my box.

Craig

Yes, I was ping from my pc behind the router and it worked before when I have router only( Linksys ), now it is not working with VT1005.
Early this morning, Vonage tech person ping my outside ip and confirmed it worked. I also had similar problem with Linksys router with old firmware.
I will settle with this for now.

I have another problem to talk about.
When I was on the phone with tech guy, almost immediately he get in my server, call was dropped (he can't hear me). We checked the upload speed of my ISP(comcast) and it is good enough(773kbps).
Any thought? QoS shoud be take care of this situation?

I too have a webserver behind a router. I too can not seem to get it to work. I tried following the directions in the previous posts exactly.
I ahve forwarded port 80 from vt100v to port 192.168.102.100 (IP of router). My router forwards to 192.168.1.100 (IP of server)

I even plugged my one PC straight into PC port (leaving router unhooked). NO dice. It would appear my ports are not being forwarded.

IN both cases I can't even get a ping back from machine. I even installed ZoneAlarm to see if I could get an alert...and I am getting no incoming traffic at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

You can not get to the external ip of your MTA from the PC port. You have to try connecting to that IP address from outside of your network. When on your lan you must use the internal IP address.

So in your case from your LAN (connected to PC port of MTA or your router) you will not be able to type http://x.x.x.x/ (where x.x.x.x is the ip address assigned to your MTA from the ISP) and get through. This is a limitation of many low cost routers using NAT. To really know if the port forwarding is working you need to check it from outside your network.

If you need to access the web server from your local lan use the 192.168.1.100 address.

Hi guys,

Pls excuse my ignorance, but what's the "pass-through" super secret undocumented mode ?
And pls shed some light on how to update the VT1005 firmware.
Mine seems to get overflowed with traffic. I mean, if I'm using shareaza it will completely freeze in less than one minute. With some nicer bittorent clients it might work for 4-6 hours then the DNS gets cut out.
